In this chaotic time, Kroger is seeing a Great Burnout of many of it's workers. From the very top to the very bottom of the hierarchy.
Corporate level to the very departments in which you work, day to day, hour by hour. There is an exhaustion of it's members, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
From the strict guidelines in the workplace to the irrational ideas of it's corporate, regional, district, store, and department leaders. The countless times leaders, as most stores call them "bosses", do not see eye to eye in the every day operations, functions of it's members, or goals for the business.
The direction is not clear. The vision is a blur. But one thing is for certain, greed far exceeds the care of it's members, new and old.
There is a push to manipulate the minds of it's members to form them into tolerant, obedient, and well-controlled workers that will be able to do the work, but not realize how much they are being used, overworked, underpaid, under appreciated, and ill-trained by the company elite for it's own personal gain.
What is this Great Burnout? Well, it all begins with you..
You begin your day by clocking into the system. You cannot be too early or too late. Not a second too soon, not a second too short. This must be perfect so ordered by the bosses. You are the henchman ready to tackle the jobs you are given, at least that's what they require you to do. Here comes the dread, walking into your area of the job you realize that there is much work to do. You see everything that isn't complete, holes that need to be filled, a deadline that needs to be met. You walk into chaos, a disorganized environment that creates a negative environment on it's own.
You see a fellow henchman, hard at work. Tired, lifeless, the soul sucked dry, your colleague looks at you with dread, defeat, and a hatred for what they are being put through. "I'm exhausted", your colleague says. "I just want to be alone, cry, this is too much!". You frown behind that mask, you say nothing as you wash your hands per policy for twenty exact seconds as the announcement says.
Everything is absorbed by you from your colleague. All the dread, the exhaustion, the drama, it all hits you at once. Your soul begins to feel that negative environment, the negative vibe starts to devour your soul, you are helpless. You try to stay positive, but nothing works. You are trapped, it has you in it's clutches...
Your day continues, you work hard, you miss your deadline by your boss hanging over you like a hawk, the work that needs to be done begins to pile. Your boss stares at their watch unaware of the problems you face day to day. They only care about the bottom-line, not you. You find yourself alone... you are the only one left through the rest of the work day. Alone in your area. You have no one to help you. No one to pull some of the weight of the massive amount of piling work.
You can't take it anymore! You just want to quit! You realize that's irrational and want to put in your two weeks, but you can't. It is the only job you have to pay the bills which are stacking up because you get paid so little. Overtime? What is that? It doesn't exist. It's a figment of your imagination. You are scheduled for a eight-hour shift. That is what you will work, so ordered. No more, no less. Any more, you will be in trouble, period.
This is one of many scenarios happening within Kroger. You may be like the person in the story, or you may have worked so long with Kroger that you are asleep, you are unaware of what is going on around you. They have you where they want you.

Agreed, this was noticeable a few year ago when all the "Senior" associates took the early retirement. They saw the writing on the wall and were given a nice packages to retire early. With last years mass "firing" and everyone left jumping ship as soon as possible the associates remaining now have an impossible task to complete most of the times. Store sales have increase, expectation have increase, the sizes of the stoers have increase, but the level of staffing has decrease. The "hold your associates accountable" does eliminate the dead weight, but also causes the associates that have always pulled their weight to be asked to do 110% to complete their tasks.
There are not enough "associates" to hold accountable - What they have is being held accountable for more than they can do - which is why Kroger has such a crappy rating from workers online and can't find GOOD help. No one is going to work for them unless they can find nothing better. Rodney is burning the company down.
