Got the annual memo posted to our time clock and on the door of our break room saying that no requests will be approved as this is a blackout period. Last year I got the day before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving off and Dec 24th and Dec 26th off. I have 7 years this coming January with Kroger. With our schedule  there is always going to be someone off (even if they didn't rquest any time-so it might as well be YOU!)

Just request if off, either you will get it or you will not get it.  But if you don't get it and someone below you is off, you can file a grievance.  Yes, there will always be someone off the day before the holidays, unless your department is understaffed and they give everyone off the days after the holidays.

But be forewarned, even if you swipe thr day from someone below you, they might still take it off. It's been done at my store. Someone bumped another for their day, and the one bumped STILL took the day off leaving the one with more seniority to come in (it was Thsnksgiving) and cover the shift. Let's just say if looks could kill, the one that was bumped for thr day would have been dead.

I'm a minor and my family is going on a trip out of town. They say I have to go with them, and I can't just stay here by myself. It's not like I have control over my own life, and besides it's to see my grandma whose health has been declining. Can Kroger be so mean as to deny my request?

If you bumped and it was approved, you don't have to work it  PERIOD.  Hell, if they called out in, work the other day and get OT!

We had this situation last year in our store-minor went with parents (and parents called Kroger and said their child was NOT coming in.) We have in Georgia specific laws that apply to minors mostly in regards to amount of hours worked during a school year

Holidays are black out dates. requests are not accepted on holiday weeks t-day and christmas. They let people pick the schedule and if you're at a big enough store you'll find unless no one wants to work it you'll be fine. At my store there's 3 people that don't celebrate any sort of holiday. And 5 more that want maximum hour benefits and want to work the holidays.

We have a sign up sheet for Thanksgiving. One guy opted not to sign up last year and they scheduled him anyways. He complained to me about it and asked if the sign up sheet was "just for show and to keep The Union satisfied" and I nodded. Basically you sign up to work and put in your preferred time and then hope that they are not "illiterate" and read your time preference "wrong."
We close at 5-6pm so working that day is not a big deal. However, they try and force the cc's and us to stay until 7pm to get go backs done, but when we bail out, they go bat**** crazy.
