...And I have had just about every symptom in the book, including loss of taste and smell, night sweats like you wouldn't believe, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue and weakness, loss of memory, disorientation, difficulty concentrating, and a cough that will just not go away, among many other things like body and muscle aches, extreme chills, headaches, hallucinations, panic attacks, etc...And I have to deal with high blood pressure at the same time! I get a lovely letter in the mail stating that I've been approved for two weeks COVID pay, but then at the end, I could be terminated from Kroger without doctor's notes...Very compassionate response there! noconfused.gif I have official doctor's notes for every single day I've been absent from Kroger and that's been going on 4 weeks now and it hasn't let up...My manager has them ALL and sent off everything to HR...I'm fine with the 2 weeks of pay (and if I have any trouble getting that, my union rep advised me to ask the manager where the money is!) and I have a vacation coming up anyway next week, which was already pre-approved many months ago, so more time to recuperate and hopefully, get better and over once and for all with this thing...I still find it disheartening to read letters like that, though, when I am in the midst of the worst fight of a disease I have ever had in my life...No, it didn't take 2 weeks to "get over it"...My doctor says some people can take up to 3-6 weeks to get through it and we still don't know about the long-term after-effects...And NO, it is NOT the flu!!! I had that as a teenager many moons ago...This is NOT the flu!!! I have had almost every rotten symptom of this thing you can imagine...Before COVID, I was the fittest person you'd ever want to meet and an asset to my department, according to my co-workers...This COVID has left me NOT the same person now...I don't know how I got it, where I got it or anything, although I do know a few people did test positive at my store just before I got it...I could have contracted it from one of them, a customer or somewhere else, even...I don't know...Most people who are catching it now have no idea where they got it...But, I can tell you that if numbers spike like crazy after Thanksgiving and those people had a big dinner, I can tell you EXACTLY where they got it!!!evileye This disease is running rampant all over the country and where does Kroger stand? With their hands in their pockets or what? Why aren't we restricting the number of people who can shop in the stores? When somebody gets COVID, how do I know hat the stores have been sanitized properly, so the next guy doesn't get it? Why can't there be more social distancing rules in place? And then, the panic shoppers, mask deniers and general overall fools who disregard all the rules and decide to have those big family gatherings...If we're gonna be dealing with a "long dark winter" as President-Elect Joe Biden says, and Dr. Fauci is worried about what happens after Thanksgiving, then why aren't we reconsidering this...

You tell me...Have the hazards gone away in YOUR store??? Are people just as ignorant about this virus as they were before? Why aren't we "leading the charge" on this??? There are places that still have trouble getting PPE like hospitals and doctor's offices in certain areas...And now, I find out that one of my favorite uncles in his 80's caught the COVID and his daughter did, too, but she's looking after him and I seriously hope he gets better...This disaster doesn't seem to have an "end date" anytime soon, unlike the sticker on the bottom of the milk carton, so why have we dropped the ball on this??? We're not the only company who has dropped the ball on this (Walmart and Amazon, too...), but cases are spiralling out of control...I had to go to the hospital for what I thought was a minor heart attack the other day, as I was getting these chest pains in my heart and extreme dizziness (Just when I thought this was going away, COVID surges again!)...Fortunately, they gave me something to calm me down, did some tests (which turned out good, to my relief) and I was discharged, but I'm hoping there are no more health surprises around the corner...And I blame every single thing that's happened to me on the COVID, because normally, I am NOT an anxious person...at all...My co-workers would probably tell you that I'm one of the most easygoing individuals they've ever dealt with...I don't let things get to me too much, at least at work...I'm usually the one calming THEM down! I've also had PLENTY of retail experience over the years, so that helps in that you've seen things many younger guys haven't seen...Anyway, that hospital was FILLED to the brim with COVID patients coming in...I wasn't too worried because I already have the COVID and again, almost every symptom in the book...Still, I think stores and businesses could be doing a better job and paying attention to the science instead of the bottom line...I've said this before...You're NEVER gonna fix the economy unless you fix the COVID!!! And the longer this goes on with no end in sight, the more we need something to get done, whether it be more pay, a bonus, a stimulus check or some type of provisions or rules to deal with this surge...This can't go on unabated without a lot of people suffering and/or dying in the process before the end of the year (and beyond, until a vaccine is available for everyone), so what is it gonna take for more people to get serious about this thing...Because I can tell you firsthand....This is downright DEADLY SERIOUS!!! And BAD, BAD NEWS if you catch it!!! My question is this...WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE, PEOPLE???dohblehdisbelieffuriousnoevileye Or does no one care anymore and we're all screwed???

No, you're supposed to get angry and do something...ANYTHING...instead of complaining about having too many words to read! Fill out a petition, see what your union is doing regarding COVID, tell your friends, family and anyone else who will listen (or won't listen) how real this thing is and follow the precautions for starters...Don't just stand there with your mouth wide open! Be concerned! Get involved! Care at least a little bit! Heck, my teachers made me read longer books in school! Please!!! no OP here and this COVID is no joke...But, I guess we'll just all have to learn the hard way, won't we???

I'll tell you this...MY co-workers are gonna know just how bad this thing is, because I'll have a first-hand account when I get back!!! They have no idea what it's REALLY like unless they've been there...Sadly, when I see how everyone is behaving lately, I don't think you guys understand what this thing is like...I DO! And it's still not over for me, as much as I'd LOVE for it to go away! I guess you'll find out when you, a child or other family member, friend, neighbor or co-worker gets this thing...And it is coming, my friends...If I can get it, ANYONE can get it!!! Just you wait!!! By then, maybe, just maybe THEN you'll see...

All I can do is give a fair warning...What you guys decide to do or don't do is up to you...but, you can't say I didn't warn you!

You and anybody else cannot truthfully make that statement.  There are people who are genetically and medically predisposed to having a bad reaction to the virus and there are people who are genetically predisposed to being completely immune to the virus.

So it's fair to say that you'll NEVER get it? Or get it badly? And if that's true, how do you know? You are talking to one of the fittest people before all this happened...I eat right, exercise all the time because I have to just to do my job, take vitamins, watch my blood pressure, wear my mask, try to distance as much as possible...everything...After COVID, everything went downhill...I didn't plan on getting this...Don't think you CAN'T either...COVID doesn't care who you are and sometimes, a cytokine storm can happen and really ravage your body...If the doctors don't know everything about this virus and the scientists are still trying to figure it all out, what makes you or anyone else, for that matter, an expert??? All I can give is my personal experience...Take it for what you will...

No, I write serious books...It's up to you if you want to laugh at them or not...Maybe it gives you some comfort...As for me, my throat is too sore right now to laugh, sorry...Apparently, I've been coughing up a storm the last four weeks...

But, you're a funny man...

And then, there was this story from some time back...

https://www.fisherphillips.com/resources-alerts-new-covid-19-lawsuit-sends-warning-to

No, I write serious books...It's up to you if you want to laugh at them or not...Maybe it gives you some comfort...As for me, my throat is too sore right now to laugh, sorry...Apparently, I've been coughing up a storm the last four weeks...

But, you're a funny man...

Doubt your throat is sore from coughing. Choking more likely

OK, I understand your point. I am not going to leave you a smart-aleck comment. I understand you are feeling very bad, and the Covid19 has hit you hard. HOWEVER, you seem to be operating on the premise that everybody who will eventually get this thing will be as unfortunate as you. I don't mean to sound uncaring, I am just stating a fact: the majority of people who get Covid will have only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, and they will be fine. I know because at my store that 2 or 3 people who have been sick with it (that we know of......there are probably others that had it and didn't report or know about it) have recovered and are in perfectly fine shape.

THIS is why so many people are rather nonchalant about the virus, and get sick and tired of the fear-mongering by the media which has been going on NON STOP for 9 months. Ever read the newsbriefs sent out by the major news media on Twitter? It is one scare tactic after another after another.

SO, to be fair to you, I know you have suffered greatly and are very unhappy because many other people, both employees and customers, are not taking it as seriously as you want them to. But can you at least agree that the reason why so many people are becoming tired out from the constant 'fear porn" pushed by the media is because they or other people they know have recovered and are now doing OK?

Lovely...It's been four weeks...We haven't even seen the worst of this thing...The vast majority survive? Maybe, but there is no vaccine available to the greater population as of yet, the FDA hasn't approved Pfizer's or Moderna's, and you're only basing that assumption on what you know SO FAR...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/us-coronavirus-nearly-60000-americans-could-die-of-covid-19-in-the-next-3-weeks-there-are-ways-to-turn-things-around-experts-say/ar-BB1bp76O?ocid=mailsignout

60,000 more AMERICANS could die SOON and probably because they weren't thinking when they went to Grandma's on Thanksgiving...and who knows about the REST OF THE WORLD!

In fact, for every one REPORTED positive case out there, there are at least 7 going UNREPORTED, so this thing is probably much worse than we're being led to believe...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/11/26/covid-news-cdc-joe-biden-los-angeles-coronavirus/6427266002/

Get over it??? What the hell do you think I've been TRYING to do!!!! Apparently, the ONLY way I will know if I am "over" it is if I get another COVID swab (That'll make 4 of them already this year! 1 at the doctor's office, 1 at the hospital and 1 at a different hospital, so far)...They will not LET me back unless I am showing no symptoms, which as of now, have not 100% abated...And even after the symptoms go away, you can still be asymptomatic, which is why they make you wait a little longer before returning to work...I've gotten some calls from the health department contact tracers about this, so they're checking up on this stuff, too...

By the way, if you wanna talk about "being a baby", go tell that to your 5-year old toddler of a President who would rather hold rallies with thousands of maskless people instead of giving PPE to frontline workers, passing a stimulus bill or even acting a little concerned over the rising numbers...He'd rather cry and complain to his lawyers that they're all making him look like a damn fool! Face it, Biden won...People voted differently because they are TIRED of this pandemic and want somebody to make some changes, but you know what??? I'm done!!! You're either gonna see for yourselves or not, but I'm done!!! It's obvious that none of you have been paying attention and none of you work in a healthcare setting or nursing home or knows someone who does...If you did, this wouldn't be such a funny thing...Right now, I have two uncles (just found out about the second one) and a cousin going through this thing with all various symptoms and THEY never thought they would catch it...To them, it is NOT a joke! And I'm worried as hell about them because those uncles are both in their 80's...But, have your little parties...I'm DONE!

None of this sh** is gonna help me recover anyway...Maybe when you "get" it, you'll get it...no

I understand your point, too, but it's not totally about whether YOU feel sick or even if you have symptoms...It's whether you have it and don't know it or have it and don't care and 7 or 8 more people get this thing because you didn't wear a mask or were a "superspreader", which none of us knows for sure if we are or aren't...Doesn't anyone have any consideration for their other family members to keep them safe from this thing, if they know it's bad??? Isn't it better to be safe than sorry??? I get that many people won't have it as bad, but even with mild symptoms, we could be looking at "long-hauler" after-effects that we don't even know about yet...After-effects that could affect people for the rest of their lives that they'd never experienced before...After-effects that could keep them from working or living a normal life...I'm just saying that in my case, for a couple of the people who tested positive for this thing in my store, they tested positive several weeks before I did and no one I know (not even the managers..or they won't say) has heard hide nor hair of them since they went on leave...And then, I go on leave and it's been four weeks now myself...The only other guy I know at my store who had it died...So, I haven't seen anyone yet...personally...who dealt with this thing for 2 weeks and then came back A-OK...I think this 2-weeks-and-you're-done thing is covering up the real problems...That's just my experience, but I'm sure yours will differ...I'm tired of the fear-mongering, too, but it's the apathy that probably bothers me more...People are getting this thing, some probably thinking it's just allergies or a cold and not realizing what they have and then, they're making it worse by infecting every one else in their family or work area unknowingly...Everyone complains that the numbers are going up or that their governors are continuing to lock them down when it's THEY themselves who are spreading the disease unawares, causing the numbers to go up and voila...MORE LOCKDOWNS! If we were only more careful, maybe we could have controlled this virus better and there would be no NEED for lockdowns...Which is why you don't see H1N1 or Ebola ravaging the states...but, because everyone is more concerned about themselves than others, here we are with rising numbers and no end in sight until a vaccine, whenever that comes...I don't like this thing as much as the next guy, but until all of us curb our bad behaviors, the media is gonna keep reporting these "fear stories", so if we want things to change, WE have to change!!!

We've had pandemics before and the media didn't overinflate it (SARS, MRSA, H1N1, swine flu, bird flu, Ebola, Zika, West Nile Virus, etc.)...Why NOW and with THIS one if it's just a little "bug"?

Or IS it just a little "bug"???confuse

Because this year was a presidential election year and it was a way to get Trump out of office.  As soon as people started refering to it as the "Trump virus" his chances of re-election were practically zero.

But, he didn't do a damn thing about it except to say "We're turning the corner" a million times, "It's gonna disappear like a miracle" and "It will go away"...

And yet, it's still here and Dr. Fauci is still talking about a surge on top of a surge...What did Trump do? He denied that the virus was bad and that people were getting it...When he got it, he kept holding rallies and people in his inner circle caught it...Plus, he eschewed wearing masks and made fun of Joe Biden for wearing one...At least, in Obama's case, at least he knew how bad Ebola and H1N1 were and did something to stop it, which is why you never hear about those today...Trump pretty much cared about himself and nothing else...That kind of narcissism hasn't been seen in a long time and certainly, the kind of behavior he exhibits would never be seen in the likes of Presidents Obama, both Bushes or Clinton...He's gone above and beyond with his total lack of leadership and lack of concern for 1. the real problems affecting us and 2. the people who are suffering because of them...And the people who support him are only condoning that sort of behavior, which helps no one but Trump...

Stop whining. You still have no clue what is going on. The media and government are inflating the numbers so they can control you.

Right! And they've had many opportunities to do this over the last 40-50 years or so, so why NOW? When Ebola, H1N1, Zika, SARS and MERSA were in the news, why didn't they inflate those numbers or inflate how bad those illnesses were if they wanted to control us? Just think, if Trump can make anyone believe anything, just by him SAYING it's true, then why couldn't they do that back then? They didn't because those pandemics turned out to be not as bad as this one! And maybe, people weren't so gullible and much more aware...And yet NOW everyone thinks "Oh, it's just a little flu"...Little flu, my a**!!! I know what the flu is like and this ain't no flu! If they could keep track somehow of every positive test in this country and you could be assured those tests were accurate 99% of the time, I guarantee the numbers would be staggering...And that's just counting the ones who can get tested or that have tested...I'm sure the REAL numbers are much worse...Anyone who thinks they know what's going on has NO IDEA what's going on because the people who are supposed to know what's going on (at least enough to fix the problem) don't even know themselves...Plus, if you ask me, some people are seeing boogeymen and conspiracies around every corner, where there are none...The thing is, fear and misinformation are not gonna fix this or make it go away...

Well, I see someone knows how to use ALL CAPS! Three things...One...The squeaky wheel doesn't always get oiled first...Two...If you want to talk "stats inflated by a large margin", why don't you talk about YOUR President's "inflated and deflated" claim that his inauguration crowds were bigger than Obama's and the fact that he still doesn't understand how Joe Biden beat him in the election, claiming "fraudulent" and "inflated" votes (I can understand it, because the answer is simple...The last four years were a nightmare...and um...The Donald sucks!) ???...And three...I think I'm just going to listen to Dr. Fauci and the "smart guys in the room" on this one...

The population of the United States is 328.2 million.  That does not include illegal aliens which some estimates put at around 14 million.  Thirty percent of that is anywhere between  98.46 million and 102.66 million.  The current cumulative number of positive cases is 13.7 million.  In order to reach 98.46 million, there would have to be over 2.9 million new cases a day.  So far the highest increase has been 205,000.  That's less one tenth of the number needed. At 205 thousand new cases a day, the total at the end of the year would be 19,645,000.  That's only 5.7% to 5.9% of the population.  That's a far cry from 30 percent.

OK, but 1. the year ain't over yet...2. It takes a few days sometimes for people to show symptoms, and we just had Thanksgiving (and don't know how many people spread it to their loved ones)...and 3. Christmas is a month away and what will THAT be like???

We might have that "herd immunity" people talk about, but according the good Dr. Fauci, not until summer of next year and that's AFTER getting one of the vaccines, so we've got to "stay the course" in the meantime...

Keep this in mind, too...As you said, the current number of cases is at 13.7 million...Keep in mind that for every 1 case that goes REPORTED, 5 cases go UNREPORTED, so I'm guessing the number is much larger due to people quarantining at home, thinking they have a flu or cold, when it's actually COVID and they haven't been tested for it...Also, they are talking about THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE who have had COVID SOMETIME over the past year, and not just current cases...

That 13.7 million cases is for the entire year.  As far as that Doctor Gottlieb saying only 1 in 5 cases of Covid-19 is documented goes,  he's just taking a guess.  There's no way to prove it one way or another.   Of course if he's right, that's actually a good thing.  That would mean the actual hospitalization and death rates are actually just a fraction of what's being reported.  Instead of 269, 000 deaths out of 13,700,000 cases or 1.96%, it's really 269,000 deaths out of 68,500,000 cases or .39%.

The 13.7 million number is what's been reported, but how many of you have ever had a cold and just said, "I can't afford to take a day off of work" and just went in anyway, despite feeling miserable? I haven't always taken care of myself and went into work anyway, when I probably should've stayed home...Now, think about the average American who has to support their family...If they sick, are they gonna necessarily stay home if they need the $$$ or must run errands? How many people have you ever known that don't see their doctor regularly or won't see one at all because they're afraid of what the doc might find? Some people with no insurance might say "I can't afford to go to the doctor" or "They're not testing in my area", even if they wanted a COVID test, so they never get one...It's like with homeless youth...Used to be that the teachers could spot a kid who was homeless...The teacher could see the addresses of the parents and if a shelter was listed, that was one sign, or if the kid was stealing or hoarding food, that would be another sign, but many kids aren't at school now and although there are no set figures, I'll go out on a limb and say that many of those kids are probably falling through the cracks worse now, esp. in poor urban or rural areas, where there just aren't enough resources to get an accurate count...So, back to COVID, I don't think there are enough resources to get an accurate count on the pandemic numbers...So, the number they're reporting (13.7 million) is likely much, much higher and NOT lower, due to the fact that not everyone can afford to go to the doctor or is willing...Don't even get me started on the anti-vaxxers when vaccines start coming out...There are homeless people who may have the virus, for instance, too, but they have no access to quality health care to do anything about it...Keep in mind that even those 269,000 deaths may not be accurate either...They are only going by REPORTED numbers and hospitalized patients...I'm willing to bet that there are a lot more people who should be hospitalized, but are not...And if in some places, the hospitals are overflowing with COVID patients, where does that leave all the new ones coming in? That strain on the system can only go so long before something breaks...

Of course, this could be all just speculation on my part...That said, if faced with a choice between official numbers on how bad a problem is vs. anecdotal evidence that the problem may be actually worse, I always err on the side of the anecdotal evidence...If we haven't handled this thing right from the start, what makes you think they've tabulated the numbers right now? How do they REALLY know for sure? And considering what I noted above, how can it be that EVERYONE who has the virus is getting the proper treatment that he or she needs when you think of the extenuating circumstances, behaviors and situations that might cause them not to get treated?

All I'm saying is...Think about that for a minute...Use common sense...Be honest with yourself,  too...There are more questions than answers...

Personally, I think people are just so tired of this thing that they don't want to see the truth of how bad it is because it might give them nightmares...They'd rather not know...But, this thing ain't over yet and the real nightmare is that if this thing gets worse because no one wants to do anything to mitigate it, we're ALL in big trouble! And like I said, two more holidays (Christmas & New Year's) are just around the corner...

And by the way, even if the numbers WERE lower, that still doesn't mean that we shouldn't play it safe and protect our loved ones from getting sick, especially since this virus can be transmitted quicker...

Exactly! It's just that easy to get your life disrupted because of this thing...Hopefully she doesn't have any major issues, but this should be a lesson for all of us with the coming holidays...Even Dr. Fauci isn't doing his traditional routine...

...And I have had just about every symptom in the book, including loss of taste and smell, night sweats like you wouldn't believe, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue and weakness, loss of memory, disorientation, difficulty concentrating, and a cough that will just not go away, among many other things like body and muscle aches, extreme chills, headaches, hallucinations, panic attacks, etc...And I have to deal with high blood pressure at the same time!

Big deal. I got all of that working one shift at Kroger as a courtesy clerk.

I was sick in fall 2019 with a fever that neared 101.

I'm pretty sure it was Covid looking back now.

It took more than a month to recover. Three days just to break the fever.

It's part of why I don't go out and wear a mask now. First, I don't like being told what to do or what I should wear. Decency laws aside (no nudity...!) I'll wear what I want and that decision includes a mask or no mask. Second, I live in a world where I want to be able to shake someone's hand without people gasping nearby from shock. Third, oh blah blah blah your needs.
