my boyfriend was hired, worked, and was fired for cutbacks after a year.
another year goes by and he reapplied and got PT courtesy clerk.
he got told he needed to take fourteen days off because he was exposed along with a lot of other employees (60% of their paychecks would be theirs).
so... eleven days roll by and he gets a call saying they cant afford to pay all their clerks (???? Kroger made billions???) and then yesterday he, six other clerks, and manager got called in to drop by immediately. i feared the worst and was proven right.
He was fired because they needed to have some cut backs. A second time.
its really bizarre. Like if he was doing something wrong, they never told him. They always said he did a great job and other employees would call in and show up late or do stupid things and they didnt get fired. Im kinda confused and wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if maybe somethings off?
idk something is sketch, like? How can they not afford their employees they made so much money...
They aren't paying people to be off for 2 weeks just because you've been "exposed" to covid. We work in a grocery store, we've probably all been "exposed" to it by now. You have to test positive to get paid.
Sounds like he was laid off due to not enough business. I have seen Kroger do this to cashiers before. Give them 0 hours for two weeks and then put them back on the schedule. They avoid paying unemployment like that.
If the store is non union, then there isn't much he can do except file for unemployment and find another job.

Sometimes the next job is a better job.
Good luck with it.
Kansas. So its a right to work state unfortunately. Im super upset.
oh, here the stores themselves arent union, just the departments. Deli, Meat/Seafood. Kinda odd, I know.
and thanks :) he has a few interviews but boy did my heart drop when i heard the news. I wondered if something bad was happening with kroger or just his store.
