We have a new asm and she introduced herself to us during a staff meeting. One of the first things she said past introductions is that lunches MUST be taken as assigned. Meaning we can NO LONGER decide that a lunch 3 hours after start of our shift is too early. Starting today, lunches MUST be taken as assigned unless approved otherwise. She was speaking mainly to front end and baggers because they often take their lunches after they are supposed to. For example xxx works from 6am to 3pm and his lunch is from 9am to 10am. He takes his lunch from 10am to 11am instead
How is she going to find out if lunches are taken as assigned? Is she going to run time and see what time lunches were assigned and when they actually went? Seems like alot of work to me.
The asm makes a duty list daily. What your tasks are and when your break/lunch is. A coworker will gladly snitch on you(that's the guaranteed part). Once the asm has a target, it doesn't take much to check kronos. She does have access.
Corporate made a few changes to how department managers do things at my store. Might be the same for the front end too. I am no longer supposed to do physical work.
I am supposed to train, delegate and micromanage my crew.

I hated when a new Manager or even a new assistant came in and changed things like that. I mean if I have done things a way for 20 years and someone changes it I am not going to adjust.
Example:
Last manager I worked with he wanted me to change my routine. For years I started the day off cleaning the restrooms. Then going to parking lot getting trash. Then store sweep etc etc.
Then the new store manager came in a real smart mouth I should have punched him. he was telling me to start coming in at 5 am and told me he told the Front End manager to schedule me at 5 am. He wanted me to sweep parking lot and walk around the whole shopping center sweeping trash. Guess what? I was never scheduled at 5 am. A few weeks later he asked why I was not coming in at 5 am. I asked the front end manager why I was not scheduled She said because it messes up the hours and she told me to just come in and have someone clock me in. So I did that and everyday I came in everyone I asked did not know how to clock someone in.
So I started coming back in when scheduled. Manager comes to me and ask why I wasn't coming in. I said because I was not scheduled and I was told to come in and have someone clock me in. I told him I did that and no one knew how to clock me in. He said "yes they do" come in at 5 am everyday. He then took his finger and held it up and said walk around the shopping center talking his finger going around and around.
That kind of attitude I hated he did not have to use his finger and do that.
And I was trying even though I do not adjust well to change I tried to adjust. Other things happened and I just finally left the company. Sorry this was so long but when I see post like this I have to tell things that happened to me. I will add this he was the first manager that ever tried to get me to change my routine. And yes I did walk around the center and sweep. He also said to get carts that people come shop and leave at their business. They always got another cart took it back one time there was 5 carts behind one of the restaurants. I could say more about Great Clips but I want even go there.
This man did start at my store as an assistant but his title was actually manager even when we already had one. He was being trained in a big store because his old store was very small. So we actually had 2 store managers.

Ive only seen one department manager not do any sort of physical work. There are not enough hours to just delegate work.

Easy. They run time each day to figure out hours for payroll. And yes, they keep a master checkstand profile for each day. And if she looks, all she has to see is that xxx worked a 6-3, lunch from 9-10 on the master profile. She runs time and sees xxx took lunch from 10-11. Well, xxx has some explaining to do if the time sheet doesnt match the master profile. It's time consuming yes, and if management has to actually go through all that then I feel sorry fornyou.
Basically she's giving you guys a chance to take your lunches as assigned before she has to run time and look to see who took lunch and what time they took it at

They will probably move her up. Kroger loves A-hole, aggressive ASMs.
In reality, its doesn't matter when you take your lunch as long as everyone gets theirs and not too many people are out at once. The only reasoning she could have would be people "push" their lunch and then too many people are out at once. I guess she isn't the smartest to get pick her battles and start off on a good foot. If anything I would suggest the FE call her for anything when a Customer indicates Manager :)
