Big economic rebound starting now. Maybe we should each think about how we can contribute to the death of this company. Like cancer, you can't count on it going away on its own.
How does cutting hours and or having less employees make you believe the company is going bankrupt? If that was the case, they wouldn't be spending 4Billion a year on new stores and remodeling. If a company was ever close to being bankrupt, you would see anything being spent on new equipment and you would most likely see high ups jumping ship one after the other. Ask your Store Leader what the stores EBITDA was last period, I bet they would give you a weird look and then say the store is profitable.
Kroger may not be bankrupt yet, but I for one would not gamble on their stock. With high-priced union labor, grandiose marketing campaigns and frequent store remodels, good luck competing with Walmart, Aldi and Amazon in the future. Compare the price of a cart of groceries with the these competitors. If the economy experiences a downturn and increased inflation as some economists predict, an increasingly thrifty public may take some of its business elsewhere.
This is normal for this practice. They have the money. Hell our ceo went from 19 million a year ago to 22 million. Kroger's not fuc-ken broke just cheap. To them we're just numbers that are easily replaceable by another minimum wage slave jockey. This is normal practice for retail companies. Other companies are following suite too. I think Walmart started it.
To add on the workers have a stronger grasp in the labor market so it'll make union negotiations stronger. In the last contract we gained rights not lost. We even added in some safety language against customers being dic-ks. Our wage scale increased too. In 5 years I'll be earning $29/hr.
What do you think about a portion of your pay being handed over to politicians of a single party by the union, which is reluctant to identify how much of your dues are squandered this way?
For people complaining about wages, you really need to blame this on everyone wanting lower costing items and a handful of companies controlling large chunks of the retail market. Everything in the free market is based on competition, less competition for workers, less wages.
In five years you will be lucky to have a job at all if Biden continues to pursue the road to economic ruin, and your union dues helped to elect him!
Some stores were not union. Where I live it was never union. The union tried to come in years ago at the old store before it moved. Right before I left the pay status went to union I don't know exactly what that means. But there was no union and I don't know about now I think it is the same. When I said pay status was union that's just what they told me. I think it means the store pays union but no fees or dues. I am only saying what I was told. The reason the union never came in years ago is some of the Customers the big rigs in town Doctors Lawyers said they would not shop if union came in.

The towns Doctors or Lawyers wouldn't be able to keep the union out if the Associates voted the union in. Unions membership has been getting lower year after year, with companies being held more accountable with lawsuit and bad PR, they can't get away with stuff they used to, which makes Unions almost pointless. In reality, the only thing Unions do now is take weekly membership dues and every 3-5 year is try to get everyone a raise. The Union President in my area get paid $500K a year, and Reps. get paid $65K-70K. Hell, do the math, if there are 15k Associates paying weekly dues of $10, that is a lot of $$$ the Union it taking in without any real action. Hell, the only thing I see them doing before COVID was special event parties for every holiday and giving away $$ prizes. The Union is like everything else, its a business and people working for for Union just want to keep their high paying jobs.

It was because they said they would not shop if Kroger was union. That is what we were told and someone actually came and talked to each employee. Then next thing you know we were told we would not be union. There was other stores in town Affiliated with Bruno's that was union. Bruno's eventually went out of Business and employee's from that store came to our store. I am not sure what would happen if the union tried to come in again. When I left the store was going to Union pay scale but was not going to be union.
LOTS of fake news and misinformation in this here bitch. Amazon is destroying Kroger yearly shocks jump ship now. Amazon will put a end to the sh!tty management at these stores
Who ever started this post doesn't know the difference between "Going bankrupt" and bad "Business decisions to eliminate expense" If the company was going "Bankrupt" you wouldn't see new stores opening, remodels, new equipment, new warehouses and all the other things that actually cost $$$. In reality, the company is "evolving" away from the costly store staffing model to the "ALDI" or "Self-Service" model. Just because the company want to "Cut Costs" doesn't mean the are "going bankrupt", they are trying to make Wall Street happy and also pay for all the new delivery warehouse costs.
Walmart effect and the changing culture, technology/internet has changed expectations. Plus, once companies get too big, they close connectivity with customers and associates. I love how people note higher prices, but do they also complain about their homes being worth 10 times the price in the 70's.
