I think it is.  They take a pay cut.  It might be a way to cut costs at the top without having a major lay-off of more upper management like 2 years ago.  Kroger might

be trying to do it under the radar.

I know 2 Center store Coordinators that became store managers.  I think the districts were being realigned and shrunk so some coordinators were not needed.  Their options were to be a store manager or be terminated I am guessing.

Your new store manager should be an interesting trip for the employees.  We got a corporate Hr manager that hadn't worked in a store for 20 years as our store manager.  Several Department heads stepped down, transferred or quit citing him as the reason.

It only took a week for him to piss everyone off.  HR came in for a special employee meeting to listen to employee complaints  Nothing happened to the manager.

His personality is aggressive.  He does everything by the Kroger SOP book.  He will not stray from the SOP.

He makes subliminal type comments constantly.   He will tell me something is possible over and over.  I will nod my head and think, "come back to reality, it isn't possible."

I was not invited to the HR gripe meeting.  He doesn't bother me too much.

Post back when you learn more about the store manager.  I wonder if corporate is purposely putting Corporate managers in stores to get rid of hourly employees.

It isn't necessarily a demotion. These people taking a SM position still seem to be paid higher than a regular person moving up the ranks. Politics? However, it never seems to end well. They tend to do horrible in an actual store environment. They do not like it and do not do well. I can say from experience (ASM) that it is a nightmare working for these people. They have no clue what they are doing and how an actual store works. They tend to hide in their offices. They constantly call people (who are busy and have other things to do) into their office to answer a question, etc.

In most situations it depends on the specific situation, and or if being a "Store Manager" is needed on their resume to move higher. In my area, we had many people that were in higher Division levels and had to become a Store Manager to move higher. In most situations they don't take a pay cut, but their bonus potential is completely different. Think about it this way, if they ere in a Division or District level and became a Store Manager there were liked, if they became a Asst. Store Manager they were demoted. It was very interesting when they eliminated most District level Coordinators and make most of these people Store Managers, I would think 1/4-1/3 then quit or were canned. Most people moving from the Store to a desk job, can't then make it going back to the 24/7 life of the Store positions.

I am  the original poster. She was our store manager temporarily until we got our permanent manager. She used to handle the hotline calls and I know there was a complaint against her filed by someone who had a medical emergency and had to take almost 3 weeks leave.

Most store managers are terrible. Part of it is the way Kroger treats them, part of it they are just terrible people. Theres a reason why so many managers are leaving the company. Sadly, they are replaced with either clueless 25 year olds or absolute jerks who have no understanding of people.

I cant find a store with even decent morale. Tell me if you do.

I think they recently realigned the Division HR Departments, if someone was a Store Manger previously (even for a limited time), they would just move them to that position if a spot was open.

Is there a way to get a manager removed if enough people complain

That sounds just like the new manager we got, Brandi.  If the Kroger guidebook says do this at 9:03 AM every day, by golly she does it at 9:03 AM every day.  It's as if they can't think for themselves.  Also, she expects the same amount of work done even though we have half the people and half the hours we used to.  We use to get between 36 and 40  hours a day.  That's four full time people and one or two part time people.  Now, some days we're lucky if we get 24 hours.  Both our closers quit.  The warehouse keeps scratching things we need but sends multiples of things we don't.  Yet, we're still suppose to somehow get "it" done.  I'm seriously thinking about transferring to another department, maybe clicklist.  Last time this happened the new store manager drove people away and the ones left stopped putting forth any effort.  Work slowed and the store fell apart.
