sooooo a new thing at my store is that we can no longer approach or say anything if we see customers stealing cause I guess there was some type of incident at a different location. fun, right?
OH ALSO, my store, for some reason, thought it would be a great idea to put the machine where the cashiers get the money for their tills LITERALLY right next to the atm machine the customers use. just right at the front of the store where the registers are.
If a customer routinely steals enough loss prevention investigates and yes they can be brought to charges.
You can not interact with them. Yes. If you see them in the happenings of crime you can not say hey don't steal that but rather the how can i help you bull c8rap.
These rules have always been. If you watched the loss prevention theft vid during training that's all you can do.
My fes keeps trying to stop thieves and I feel one day he'll be fired for that.
Who cares if they steal? Do you get some kinda reward for stopping a customer who stole some steaks? Rather than be a narc find out ways how you can improve upon stealing for yourself
You are not supposed to approach a suspected shoplifter unless you have been trained and given Express permission to do so in writing. EVEN THEN apprehension that requires use of self defense must be used ONLY to the extent necessary in concern with a combative customer. If they try and run after pushing you away, let them go.
Also you can use a code that alert other employees of shoplifting shenanigans.
But the BEST way is to:
1. Greet the customer (shoplifter) and ask if there is anything they need help with
2. Smile and make eye contact
3. Encourage your fellow coworkers to do the same thing.
