Our store manager had me pull product from under some aisles one day. Dropped it on me basically too late in the day and it's not my favorite thing to do. At all. Took me the last half of my shift and I clock out without caring what anyone did with the three carts full of stuff.
I come in the next morning a little early before I have to clock in. I notice that the carts were still sitting untouched. It's about five minutes till and me and another courtesy clerk are talking when the co-manager who opened asked us both about the carts full of product. I explain it to them and they told us to take care of it. Their exact words.
I have done this before, and taking care of this usually means to clean the crud off and check for outdates. And some mornings there are three courtesy clerks opening. One is designated utility, one takes care of the lot, and the other bags and takes care of returns and does the other small stuff. There were three of us that day and I was utility but I explained my situation to the third courtesy clerk and said I would take their cart shifts as a gesture of kindness. We also had a walkthrough that day and the manager had me do a few small things in between getting the product cleaned and separated.
A while into my shift the co-manager approaches me and tells me to take the carts full of stuff to the back dock like they said before. Again their exact words. They didn't say that before. I asked the other courtesy clerk who was standing right next to me while we were waiting to clock in if they heard anything different than I did. Nope, same vague order to take care of it.
I felt pretty low that I basically just dumped my designated job on someone else thanks to a vague order. And the icing on the cake was I'm called to the back dock where the co-manager that pissed me off asked me what my purpose was in pulling product from under the shelves. I already explained it to them that morning. I really had to resist grabbing them and shaking them until the lead fell out of their head through their ears.
I talked to the courtesy clerk who took over utility for me the following day. I was forgiven but next time this co-manager asks me to do something, I'm going to make sure I get every minute detail so a situation like that never happens again.
