Story finally is crackign down on attendance
Permalink

It took 5 managers that came and went but our most current manager is realizing how bad attendance is at my location and is finally deciding to do something about it. How 3/4 of my staff are still employed boggles me. Any other "normal" company would of fired them long ago for attendance issues. We have a large percentage that call out for more than 30% of their shifts and are still some how employed 5 years later. This means they're calling out once or twice a week. They slip the cracks because we get new managers about ever 21 months so by the time the manager starts seeing patterns and issues they've moved on. The manager is saying enough is enough.  She is cracking down on bad attendance within the union regulations and attendance kroger protocols. She's already terminated two employees for horrid attendance. Finally these flaky staff are being weeded out. She has said it is better to pick fewer hrs than to call out for the shifts. One coworker made it clear if she was schedule to work when she couldn't then she'd call out. After 6 months of this game the manager set her aside and said "Look we need to make this work or we'll have to initiate the protocols for attendance." After that she started showing up for her shifts. I've survived this company 15 years and it boggles me how this company continues to run with the game they run.

Attendance has always been on the back of if the manager likes you or not. I literally called out for a month straight due to me moving an hour away from the store and my car breaking down, but I didn't get in much trouble for it. I burned a lot of good will but that's just how it goes. Your new manager seems to have less good will to go around. She might be able to stick around a bit longer than the nice ones. I'd keep an eye on her and try to get on her good side.
