They're not very good. They have too much cinnamon in them. I don't mean cinnamon/sugar filling. I mean just plain cinnamon. The label also list butter as and ingredient. You would think butter would be good, but it's butter that's been enhanced with natural butter flavoring. It tastes like the butter that's in microwave popcorn. Real butter does not need flavoring added to it. Hours after eating just one bite of one I could still feel the ground cinnamon on my tongue and I could still taste that nasty artificial tasting butter flavoring. The people who develop products for Private Selection must have different tastes from mine because I have not tried a single product from that line that I have liked.

You may be right about the cinnamon rolls, but you CAN'T be really serious if you don't like ANY products labeled with the Private Selection brand! You must be a major whiner, or have some serious taste bud issues. For instance, I love their whole wheat bread, here is a link to show which one I mean. It is great........... and they used to be only $1.99 for a loaf, for years, but recently the price has been raised to 2.50. https://www.kroger.com/p/private-selection-100-whole-wheat-bread/0001111008489

Actually, I have real sensitive taste buds. I'll taste things in food that no one else will taste and sure enough that item will be listed in the ingredients. One example is we got some cookies in one time and we sampled them and I mentioned they tasted like mustard. In turns out they had tumeric in them. In the case of Private Selection products the ones I tried I either flatout didn't like them or didn't think they were worth the price. I don't like their ice cream. There is such a thing as too much butterfat. It's almost like eating frozen butter. In other words, it's too much of a good thing. That's the problem with a lot of their products. They go overboard with the flavors or try to make it too gourmet. I don't like their pizza for that reason. I bought their parmesan cheese and it was too strong. It tasted more like romano. Before you say it, I do normally buy the kind that comes in a wedge that you have to grate yourself and not the stuff that comes in a can. I've had their candy and their cookies and thought they were just okay. I didn't even like their tortilla chips. In case you're wondering why I bought all those products if I didn't like them, I didn't. Of all the products I've listed, the only one I actually bought with my own money was the parmesan cheese. The others were "bought" with freebie coupons.

OK, so I do understand. And I really can sympathize to some extent because sometimes I have also tasted odd tastes in something that no one else seems to notice. (I'm the one who actually started that thread about a soapy taste in oatmeal several years ago, before I signed up for a user ID on this forum), BUT this brings up one other question I can't keep from asking you:
What brands DO you buy if you don't like any of the Private Selection stuff? It seems like if your taste buds are that over-the-top sensitive, you wouldn't be able to eat hardly anything without noticing something "off". Do you buy a lot of regular Kroger items? Or mostly Name brands? In my case I usually buy Kroger products, but depending on what kind of food it is. Definitely being on a budget, I don't mind buying "cheap" food as long as it tastes good to me. I couldn't care less about fancy name brand snobbery.

I actually like the regular Kroger Deluxe Ice cream. I buy Kroger milk, butter, and eggs. I don't like the Kroger versions of name brand cereals. I like their yellow corn tortilla chips, but I don't like their version of Doritos. I'm not even sure if they still make them. I do have to amend my previous statement about not liking any Private Selection item though. I used to like the Private Selection apple streusel pies they sold in the bakery. However, that was when it was just a plain apple streusel pie. Then, they decided to put oatmeal in the streusel mixture. They were still okay, but I prefer the original. The oatmeal gave the streusel a chewy texture. Now they've gone and added toffee to the filling. I don't want all that. I want an apple pie to taste like an apple pie. The plain apple pie is even worse. They put maple in it. Yuck! That 's what I mean about putting in too much flavor. Now, I can truthfully say I don't like any Private Selection products.
This is my basic philosophy. I will pay money for something if it is worth it, but I would rather buy something cheap and be pleasantly surprised than buy something expensive and be disappointed.

Its seems the Bakery really evolves with the tastes of the time, and doesn't carry the "old" staples like it used to have. I do agree, if you can't get a "plain jane" apple pie there is an issue going on. Hell, I remember when the used to have stacks of 6 count cinnamon rolls, and the icing was so thick they couldn't close the top lid of the container. Go to the Bakery now and look at the differing tables, 1/2+ of the items are premade and they just take the stuff out of the freezer. Hell, nothing really is "make in store" anymore....they might bake or put a topping on something, that is about it.

We still make the 6ct. cinnamon rolls. As far as I know, all the Louisville stores do. I think one of the reasons they're switching to so may pre-made products is because they can't find skilled bakers anymore. I myself am getting ready to retire in a few years. I'm currently the only baker too. They've tried training other people, but they just can't handle it.
