Getting Rehired after being fired.

About 4 months ago I got fired from my store as a courtesy clerk. I was already working there for 4 months, good slate, did my job, never had any previous warnings. Upon one of my breaks I decided to get a starbucks (not unusual, I would often do this) and pay my share and go on my way. This time the Barista didn't ring me up so I took my coffee without paying. In hindsight, yes I probably should've made him make me pay but I didn't think it'd be such a big deal. 3 days later im thrown into the office and being told ill be on suspension while they "look into it" okay sure. 2 days later they called me in and said I was fired. They investigated the barista and he was fired aswell. I didn't end up getting the Union Involved (I thought I had no chance either way) and I didn't file for unemployment. I really miss the store though and would like to go back. Is there any chance?

Fired for theft? probably not. You can always try the worst they can say is "no", but I wouldn't get my hopes up for it.

Probably not. It depends the cost of the drink and if management likes you. However they may give you another chance.

We had one checker cost the store over $1000.00 loss in giftcards. He overrode the declined payment card and was caught a few days later. He was let go, and he got the union involved. I dont know I'd he was trained well enough on giftcards but union got his job back.
The catch: he would NEVER be permitted to run a register again. My guess is that he was well liked by management because another guy stole 2 18-packs of beer and was fired faster than the speed of light.

Apply to another company. Kroger is even worse now than when you were fired.

The drink was a 4$ Expresso shot. Management liked me, I was one of the most reliable people to call in and was the usual closer. I just don't even know how I'd try to go back? I didn't involve the union and this all happened almost 3 months ago already. I'm not really worried about how **** it may be, I just miss the other employees there and the opportunities they gave me as a courtesy clerk.

In following this thread I'm betting there's more to it than what you described, and I'm betting your cavilier attitude towards it all is what got you fired. I get this image of you being in real smart ass mode when they had you in that office.

Whole thing is weird. Dunno why you want back in any way. Kinda glad they decided how they did.

Not really. They sat me in the office, told me what was recorded via security footage, and I told them the truth. Barista didn't make me pay and I took the drink anyways. Young n dumb you may say. I only want back because I liked the environment and coworkers.

Well then you should have paid. From what I read, it sounded like you knew it was wrong, but decided to take the drink anyway. Why, I have no clue. You should have paid for the drink and let the Barista know. Then both of you would have still been employed.

Yes I should have paid. In the moment I didn't think anything of it. 4$ drink, one time thing. Should be no worries. I can say I've learned my lesson and how things like that just don't slide. The barista knew, he's the one that told me "you don't have to pay for this one" so I assumed it was alright.

If you're a courtesy clerk, the union doesn't do **** for you anyway. Trust me on this.
Any other Department, meh, maybe, depending on circumstances.

But courtesy clerk? Nope.

Understood. I assumed that'd be the case, we're easily replaceable.
