Was speaking to a man at my church over the weekend and he told me his grandson was laid off from a Kroger a few miles from my home. Problem is this Kroger which I stop at occasionally has now hiring signs, long checkout times and departments closing in the early afternoon because of lack of help. Why would Kroger do this and is it happening anywhere else/
The company isn't laying anyone off, and frankly I'm sure there is more to the grandson no longer having a job. I would have to guess the grandson either didn't want to do anything, show up to work, or got fired for theft. No retailer is laying anyone off, and frankly the only reason retail workers are getting fired right now is theft or being completely incompetent.
Its also possible the manager didnt like him and made up something so he could be fired. Kroger has horrific store management. The union is a joke, so they wont fight back.
I would think the kid was fired and told his grandpa that they "let him go" or something like that, to cover their butt. Store level employees aren't "laid off" that's reserved for corporate positions like manager and above.

Probably cause he was lazy, slow, called out to much, always on their phone and probably smelled like ass.
In the 2 yrs since this so called pandemic dropped and supposedly 'nobody wants to work', I've seen too much evidence to the contrary. Rich corps and retailers found out how much more $$$$ they could make with that much less staff----and the trend is continuing. This aint sh!t. Wait, we're gonna see staffing stripped to the bone every where.
If this is true, then you can only do as you can do. Im NOT goingntonbust my a$$ doing 3 days of work within 4-6 hours. Not happening. I can get it most of the way done with overtime, but if they are unable (unwilling) to provide overtime, then the work will be done each day until it is all the way done. Not sorry, but that's just the way it is.
