In years past, we've always started making King cakes the Friday leading into Mardi Gras weekend.  This is how our sales ran in 2020.

Friday: sold 3.

Saturday: sold 8.

Sunday: sold 14.

Monday: sold 60.

Tuesday: sold 40.

 

As you can see, sales really don't pick up until one or two days before Mardi Gras.  They want us to start making King cakes now.  Why? Nobody is going to buy them.  Mardi Gras isn't until March 1st this year.

You have to love seasonal selling. I ask you, would customers know you have king cakes without you making them at this time of year?
