People think I work somewhere else
Permalink

One.day while I was off work I decided to do some shopping at a Walmart in a different town than where I work at. I was looking at the shirts when someone asked me where the shoes were located. I politely told them that I wasn't quite sure and that I didn't work there. I honestly didn't know since I was trying to find the shirts I was looking for. It got me to thinking, though. And I thought that not only do people either make mistakes or depend on the kindness of others, but that those of us that work in certain retailers must have a certain look about us that makes it universal. smile

I think it's some combination of looking at items methodically, and "resting retail face".

Not at all uncommon. I'll occasionally shop at Target for cheaper prices on my cleaning products. For some damn reason even though I'm not in target employee garb people walk up to me and ask where this and that is. i tell them I don't work here. I mean it should be pretty ****en obvious i'm just wearing a red colored shirt in target.

At walmart a customer got pissy with me and told me they were going to get me fired. They asked me to get an item in the back. I told them I'm not even an employee with this company just a customer like you. They didn't believe me. They harassed me and told me they'd try to fire me. She got quite aggressive with me. Even the manager told her I didn't work here. I called the non emergency 911 number. They sent someone out. She got arrested and taken away. I pressed verbal harassment charges against her.

This person that stopped me was nice and polite so I treated them the same way. But, yeah, if you wear something even remotely similar to the uniforms of whatever retail place you're at and someone will figure you work there. I've never been harassed, though.

Happened to me too. The kept harassing me and threatening me until.i bellowed "PISS OFF ANF LEAVE ME THE F*CK ALONE!! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT I DO NOT WORK HERE OR ARE YOU JUST THAT F*CKIN' STUPID?!?" They backed off real quick to get a manager who confirmed I did not work at that store. They were embarrassed and pissed off.
