We had a tornado touchdown they said it was headed straight towards us I could hear the sound written My phone said take cover My boss said just wait a minute. Kroger's has to have some sort of policy for this. Cuz I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to sit in a tiny box surrounded by hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel. I just feel like there should be something clear that management should know I should not tell me to wait.

Just cause it touched down and you hear its headed towards you doesnt really mean much. Did you actually see it outside? Tornados shift directions a bit. it could have destroyed the store and left the fuel center untouched. If youre that scared then why listen to what that idiot manager says? If you actually see it outside you should get some where else quick.

How much ya want to bet if it destroyed the store and left the fuel center. Kroger would not have closed the store. Even though the fuel center main server is in the store. Kroger would have found a way to keep the fuel center open.

Our old manager threw a major fit when he found out we shut the store down when there was a tornado scare. We had the customers move to the bsck room and hide in some of the rooms that have doors. Our store is "tornado safe" (we have a few areas to hide in) so we had the customers go there. When we got the all clear we let them out.

What are we supposed to do...have them drive home and risk having the tornado grab them?

Explaining that to the manager was like he heared "Wurnrieheirhejvehrj."

What do you mean you "let them out"?  Were you holding them prisoner?   If a customer wishes to leave, you can't stop them.  If you didn't allow people to leave, and something were to happen, Kroger would have several lawsuits on their hands.  If it was found you personally were the one telling people they couldn't leave, then you'd be in heap of trouble too.  All you can do is offer the protection.  You can't force someone to take it.

Yes, we have a severe weather policy..

Lighting storm, tornado and the like.. supposed to shutter down..

But, like all Policy, Kroger doesnt follow them..

Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch and then an actual Tornado touchdown are completely different things. Unless there is an actual touchdown or the weather is completely nuts, there really isn't too much that can be done other then to take shelter. If the weather is extreme, you should really turn off the pumps and leave the kiosk. Extreme like...Dorothy and her house are about to lift off....or it looks like a Tesla coil is all around you because of lightning.

Also, almost all upper Mgmt will always say you made the wrong decision in closing the store......unless someone was injured or building is literally collapsing around you. In the moment, do what you need to do....

I remember having an argument with a Manager. He said I was safe when it was lightning as long as I stayed on the sidewalk. He said it would not strike me on the sidewalk.

What is the rule? When Thunder roars go indoors. I told him that and he got mad we just never talked about it again. He was a good manager just some things we disagreed on. And going outside even on the sidewalk I said I was not going to do and no one could make me.

We didnt force them. Once the scare was over we all left. Sorry for not making it clearer, I was typing quickly on my last break and trying to get back on time.

Anyhow, once the scare was over, we all left. No one was forced and if someone wanted to leave they could.

We had a similar situation in our store about 6 years ago. Announcement was made to leave carts where they were and head to the back of the store. It got so dark outside the street lights came on. We hustled as many customers as we could into the warehouse and those we couldn't had them stay in the back near our dairy area.

I worked for WM for many years and this was called a Code Black. It used to be mandatory for all customers and staff to be corraled in the back hall way. People bitched but no one really caused a prob.

The reason people can leave now? When conditions outside might kill them and staff are just trying to save their lives? You can thank some Karen who prolly called the ACLU over that.

But 2 things I remember from those.. 1. folks would come back out after the all clear. Store would be dead and black cuz we'd usually lose power, so there'd be no registers open.....and yet they'd continue to meander around filling their carts. Get pissed as HELL when they'd get to those dead registers.

And 2.: One time this chick was in the back hall, been back there almost 40 minutes, and she's freakin out but 'my baby's out in the car! I have to get to him!!!'

Bitch had left an infant with a pacifyer in her car so she could shop in peace. Jesus. We need a real pandemic, no more fake ones.

You have to be pretty close for a tornado to actually pick you up, like really close. Lol at the manager hearing that makes me think about the people at my store. Telling these sad managers something and its like Im talking like those people from the Charlie Brown shows woh whoh woh wohhh

Man to read that about that infant being left in the car. Poor kid. I dont get how some one can just feel okay doing that And not be worried.

Funny, we grilled her pretty harsh on that very point. She was like 'B-but I was only gonna be in here a few minutes and then YOU PEOPLE made me stayyyy!' All of a sudden it was our fault she was a heartless douche.

 The ACLU?

What will they do?

Had a tornado in my area last week. A few miles down the road is a Dollar General. Those are on every corner ya know.

Anyway the Manager was talking about it with another lady. She saw the funnel cloud and was trying to get customers to safety.

She said the DG policy was to close the store. She also said Customers were breaking things stealing things calling her rude and she had to call the law.

Why do people go crazy when there is a storm? I say when they are warnings and a funnel cloud is spotted get everyone to a safe place either make them leave or in the coolers and close the store even if the cloud is 10 miles away. And if anyone starts showing out slap them like Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.

No. A funnel cloud 10 miles away isnt gonna do much to me. If you try and force me to stay in the store then Im gonna start shooting out the windows. You have no right to keep me in there. If my decision is a poor one and ends my life so be it. But a tornado 10 miles away from where the store is isnt gonna do anything unless its headed that way.

Waiiiit... why would she leave a baby in the car?!? If you want peace of mind shopping leave the baby with dad, grandma, or another responsible person. She's the ass here. Maybe if she took the baby with her, she wouldn't have to worry about the potential tornado grabbing him.

We have the same problem where I'm at too. The mother leaves her young kid in a car while she shops. Usually when its hotter than hell out too. EVEN in the shade, EVEN with windows cracked open, its STILL TOO HOT. I've broken a window a few times to get young kids out, pets, and even old frail people out of the oven of a car. The elderly were EXTREMELY grateful, the pets, and even the young kids. I was confronted by the owner of the car but they quickly backed off when they realized.that they'd be in a world.of major hurt if they tried to stop me or rise up against me.

You dont do that to elderly, pets, and kids. And you DO NOT rise up on me if I get them.out of the car, or you're gonna get hurt.

By law they're to provide you safety standards. If they're in violation of it complain to whom ever in your state handles this sort of safety issue.

One company I worked for they actually installed a cellar under ground for us to vacate to if need be.

Eh, there could be a policy in a secret binder that management may or may not have hidden or thrown away.  Or were never told about.

Look at your paycheck.

Is it worth dying for?

Are you Rodney?

Or would McDonalds or Walmart pay you significantly more if you lived?

If you're onsite, shelter in the store.  If you're offsite, management isn't actually convinced that you exist.
