It's true. Actual studies have proven this. And yet, the management cuture now is to be such a miserable ball buster that, I'm convinced, this is why so many jobs remain unfilled today. And not this bullsht of 'nobody wants to work!'

When an employee is led with with fear and intimidation and harrassment, they become resentful, hateful---and completely unproductive. You can fire and replace em, but if YOU haven't changed your attitude, you just gonna keep getting the same results.
So many mangers don't realize: you're only as good as your ability to get your job done. And if you got nobody to do the work...? RUN THE MATH.
I am a Department manager with a 14 person crew. I am just an over paid baby sitter.
No one likes to be micromanaged or constantly yelled at. I agree, they will do less work.
Well, I don't yell at anyone. I don't like holding hands or micromanaging. I expect a lot from everyone. I give simple directions and try to assign tasks that match each person. Foolishly, I expect too much and let everyone manage their own work habits. I have one that has the best work habits. I have 7 that do a so so job. The rest I have no words to describe in public.
What I get is a lot of slacking off. Yes, a little goofing off is ok. Simple tasks and some of my crew couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag.
Constant call ins and very few people terminated.
In general, my crew does a decent job most nights but not good enough for kroger standards and expectations.
The main complaint is too much work and not enough pay. My reply is, "Go find another job that will pay you what you want."
I spent to many years being a door mat to those *******s. Now I went to far the other way and I been termed from a coupla jobs, but so what. Fact is i dont really wanna work any more any way, and I really dont have to becuz I'm on partial disability. But yea in general the best bosses I've ever had knew how to treat people.

But I do bring a point. Ready? Here it is: We don't care about your tender feelings. We've got a job to do, just like you, and our job is to motivate you to do yours. How ever we have to do that. Fair, unfair, nice or not nice.
I've been in retail management for a long time and it's been my experience that the nice guy thing doesn't work. You'll get yourself in trouble trying it, because your superiors will see you getting run over and taken advantage of, and all the work not getting done, and guess who they go after? The slacker employees you're supposed to be in charge of?
Or the manager they're in charge of making sure those slackers are working. < If this was your answer, you're catching on and there's hope for you.
No. I'm not there to be a nice guy or hold your hand. My job is to lead my team so we earn our company the most money we can. Period.
