My store was closing and I told my union rep that I wanted to still be a cashier. they told me that i could bump someone with less seniority. did just get a person fired? Or do he or she still have a job?
Bumping someone means you take over their assigned hours and they have to take your hours. The person you bump has to be able to actually do the job you were doing or you won't be able to switch with them.

True. However at my storesome people with less seniority have actually PRETENDED not to know how to do the other person's job, so they couldnt be bumped.
Another time they came into work their original hours they were scheduled EVEN THOUGH they were bumped. That left one shift unaccounted for. The person bumping was p*ssed because they were technically still responsible to make sure the shift got covered. It was a huge mess.

Again: I'm for union, but this business of 'I've been here 100 yrs but dont do sht, I'm lazy and stupid as fk but it dont matter cuz Ima take YO sht any way', that shts gotta stop
While they say "bumping" in most situations the people with less seniority most likely already get the scraps. Also, unless the department is well overstaffed, it might not made a real dent in people hours. Hell, most front ends will be understaffed in a few weeks with school starting.

I've never heard of it done like that before, and I've been with Kroger for over 30 years. Bumping and switching are two different things. Also, with the new My Time scheduling system, you can't switch with someone unless they agree to it. You bump someone when you want more hours. If you switch, you may or may not get more hours. If you bump someone, that person simply loses those hours. They don't have to be able to do your job.

They? You mean you don't know if your union rep is a woman or a man?

More desirable hours go to the most senior employee. They aren't the bad guy for assuring their rights - whoever is doing the schedule should know better.
