I had a lady the other day harss me about why we threw out her wic returned baby formula instead of putting it back on the shelf. She got pissy she couldn't have cash for it and we had to put it on a march return card because she refuse to have it put back on her wic card. This is a scam and against policy.

So what's the difference between the customer throwing the item away and Kroger throwing it away? At least the customer has made an effort not to waste something by returning it. I would think as long as the item wasn't opened and the customer had a receipt there should be no problem in taking back the item and putting it back on the shelf. When I did go backs, we didn't have that rule.

Because all it takes is for one person to get poisoned one time and sue the almighty SH!T out of Kroger. Or McDonald's. Or any busness where fresh food is sold. This has been policy for decades all over everywhere.

Customer returns(anything that went into someones home) are unsafe to resale. The above mentioned products should get a yellow "Do not Resale" sticker on them. There is too much risk for someone to get hurt.
The customer gets a refund, kroger writes it off, employees get paid less and everyone pays more for groceries.
Go backs left sitting inside store are different. The perishable items are ok as long as you know they stayed refrigerated. Baby food and medicine is ok to put back as long as the package did not get tampered with.
I had a customer try and return fabric softener one night just before closing. I order the aisle and it wasn't something we sell. They swore they bought it at our store. A coworker opened it and poured straight water out of it. I gave it back to the customer and told them we didn't want their water.
