I've been management at other jobs I worked at before the 2008 depression and I swear:

It's who you know and who can pull strings for you. Not how much experience you have, how long you've been in that position, how much you know. How much education or prior work experience you have. I have too many parents working at my store and their child has priority over other candidates for positions that come up. Right to the top fast track. F' everyone else. What happened to the good old days of being hired in as a courtesy clerk then having to prove your worthy before even becoming a cashier or other? Well those days are deader than a dead fu--ck kroger!

Sorry kroger but my location is turning to cra--p because you keep putting people with too little experience in lead/management positions. My store is litterly run by 18 yr olds playing management. The store is literally turning to cra--p because of it!

People used to have to work years in a department before even becoming a back up. So by the time you did become a back up, you knew the job inside and out. It was the same way when you became a department head. You didn't need extra training because you had already been doing the job. Now they think all someone has to do is watch a tutorial on a computer and take a multiple choice pop quiz to become a department leader. The problem now is they rely solely on all the different scans that have to be done instead of teaching people how to think for themselves. It was bad enough when we used the RF units, but it's worse now that we have the Zebras. When I first started in bakery, the only time we used a scanning device was when we were ordering something. Back then the scanning device consisted of a main unit with a cord attached with a laser pen attached to it. When we did a bread breakout, we had a chart with the days of the week and all the names of the breads we baked and we would manually write down what were planning to bake the next day based on how much was leftover. Now you have to get a Zebra device and input the quantity of each bread item. Then it generates a breakout telling you how much to bake. Then you have to input how much you actually did bake. Most of the time, and I'm sure most people do this, it's just submit submit submit submit submit...etc.

Corporate has taken away all decision making that used to happen at the store level. We used to decide how much and what type of product we got in for all the different holidays. Now corporate just sends what they want and they always send it before the inventory from the last holiday is depleted.

Other factors can make a difference. Like getting hired and getting put in the department where no one wants to work and there will be not training. Then they ask if you want to be a manager with almost no training. The big thing I always noticed was blind obedience and absolutely keep your mouth shut or don't get caught clocking in. Pricks.

Someone told me today that the deli manager at their store literally just started working for Kroger four weeks ago.  But hey, according to Kroger, as long as you do all your scans properly, everything will just magically fall into place.

No one wants to work deli, let alone manage it.
