We used to have private security working 7 days a week then only on weekends. Has your store lost it's guards too?
They're waiting for an "incident" to happen before they hire more security. My shift starts before the store opens and I have ring the doorbell to get somebody to unlock the door to let me in. Sometimes there will be someone, who's not an employee or a vendor, waiting there too.
One of the stores in my town closed a few years ago. It had been open for 60 years, but out of control threft bled it dry and killed it. In the last year or so they finally brought in two security guards: one was a ridiculously old man who would literally be asleep on his feet, the other a dumb punk kid who would slouch in a corner just scrolling his phone.
By the very end I would see people pushing full carts of stolen food right past these guys, sometimes snickering at them.
Now? 3 stores left, only one with 'security guards', and the only one of em I've seen is another punk kid who at least walks around and pretends to work.....but he too just scrolls his phone.
At the rate retail theft is going it'll only be a matter of time before corp closes another store in my town. A big part of the problem is the laws are evidently on the side of the thieves----you really can't touch em any more, for fear of law suits.

We had a guard from a private company-he wasn't a Kroger employee. At first he only worked Friday thru Sunday then they expanded it to 7 days a week after an incident in our store. I wish we could have had off-duty police instead
