Update on Moderation and Fighting Spam
Permalink

Hello everyone, Happy 4th of July!

As we've done in the past I think it's a good idea to keep our members informed on our moderation attempts for the past year or so.

It's probably not common knowledge that we had a large uptick in spam activity due to an internal reset on our block list that let a few bad apples back onto the forums. Some have taken it as an opportunity to rejoin the conversation but, sadly, at least one person began harassing others. That person was dealt with, after probably way too many attempts to keep things civil.

We're currently banning over 10million IP addresses to which most are VPN networks used by spambots.

In relation to all of those networks we have reached out to at least 5 different network operators in regard to their hosting of spammers. It probably isn't surprising that most of them don't care enough to return our, repeated, attempts at contact. However at least 1 did and let us know that their license with the client was terminated!

If any of you wish to discuss current moderation efforts or have suggestions we'd love to hear from you. The best way is to either drop a comment below or send a private message to Admin to be sure everything gets looked at.

The Kroger Forum Moderation Team hopes you're all able to eat many hotdogs.
