I wonder if people are as careless with their cell phones or car keys as they are with these things.  All it takes is for a few people to misplace them or accidentally take them home for everyone to start hoarding them.  They should start suspending people for losing them.  If I'm lucky to find one in the morning, I don't let anybody borrow it because I have to use it all day for ordering and all the stupid useless scans and if you lend it to somebody, they never return it.  I'm tempted to buy my own personal charger off of Amazon and then hide it somewhere where nobody can find it.  A single device charger is around $50.00.  Other people in my department use a Zebra too.  So maybe we could split the cost.  Or maybe management could give every department their own charger with enough Zebras for that department to use exclusively.  Of course each department would have to hide theirs because you know with the way people are, someone would lose all their Zebras and would go looking in other departments for one.

Even if people hide them in their departments, they still have to eventually put them back on a charger. I see no problem with some returning a Zebra at the end of their shift and going ahead and grabbing another one that's fully charged and hiding it so they have it the next day. You take a Zebra. You return a Zebra.

Management can beep them to find them. As long as they have a charge

Employees leave them everywhere.

I wonder how many have been stolen by customers.

You can also remove the battery.  Someone could grab a Zebra for them to use the next day and take the battery out so it can't be located.  I have no problem with someone taking a Zebra and setting it aside to use later.  It's the ones that don't return them promptly  when the battery runs down.  Those things don't charge very fast.  I remember I found one that was 3/4 fully charged and I put it on a charger to finish charging it.  It took over an hour to finish charging.  I had to watch it like a hawk to keep someone from taking it.

My manager got pissed and decided to make people turn them all in. The sign in out works if everyone does it. The problem is everyone has to be on the same page.

This is no different than the old scanning guns that people use to hord because there was not enough of them and people had to use them to complete job duties. The only reason why they keep them is because ther's like 4 job duties you can still only do on them and not the new zebra.
