Found out they scheduled me to work New Years Day even though I DID NOT sign the volunteer roster posted by our timeclock. I was...actually WILL STILL be drinking when I get off at 5pm New Years Eve. New Years day they have me coming in at 6am.
I did not sign my name to work on that roster. We had tons of signatures so they'll make do without me.
What is the point of having a volunteer sheet if they are going to schedule everyone anyway? So I guess I'll be either doing a on-call no-show (highly likely) or I'll call out if I am awake. (HIGHLY unlikely because I'll be asleep from partying more or less)
I would talk to whoever makes out your schedule and see if they'll change it. If you're eligible for legal holiday pay, you could lose it if you don't work your schedule.
True. The volunteer sheet is technically "for show" it has almost no bearing whatsoever. In other words, its posted because the union contract says it must be. So if they want you to work, then work you shall.
See if you can come in later New Years Day or just cut off drinking earlier on New Years Eve. That is what I did. They have me working a 6am to 3pm new years eve and 8-5 new years day. I have the following weekend off (unavailable on weekends normally) so what me and my family/friends are doing is celebrating on the following weekend. It's later, but I drill get to celebrate and what's more is I still have my job.
They are sending more than one message. Primarily, you must give a ____ because they don't. They that make the schedule is dominant. Also, go ahead and leave if you donclmlt't like it. When that happens they will act surprised.
If you have senority you can bump a lesser seniority for their day. Meaning if they are off, they no longer have that day. But be fowarned: if you bump them and they do not show up, I believe it is you who gets in trouble for it, not them because you are responsible for making sure your shift is covered.

Yea.. that whole bumping bull**** doesnt work with me. I wont be going in. seniority means nothing.
Please read the scheduling clause in the union hand book coupled with kroger's (or your store's) scheduling practice.
Holidays are black out weeks for day off requests. Yea it sucks.
I really wish kroger would stop toying with hrs, people's availabilities, and offer them livable paychecks. Crap like this is why they can't keep people. Why kids do not want to work grocery careers.
