60 min vs 30 min Lunch
Permalink

Today when I was clocking out for lunch, my store director said "if you want to take  30 min lunch please do." I just did a little chuckle but didn't say anything. An hour later when I clocked in they got mad.

Why get mad when I chose to take an hour lunch rather than a 30 min lunch? Is it becauis they had to handle clicklist? Oh  well... if they want me to take a half hour then schedule me the half.hour. dont have a "fit" when I choose to take an hour.

I took an hour because I didn't feel like taking a half hourunch.

Main reason is they might have had somebody leave during that first half hour. So for the second half hour they were understaffed when they expected you would be there to help.

Plus youre also screwing yourself. If youre hourly, youll have a half hour pay cut. Imagine you got 3 people carrying 20 pounds each. You leave for break. 2 people now have to carry 30 pounds. So during your break, another person clocks out so now you got one person carrying the full 60 pounds for the next half hour.

I hope that makes sense.

If your shift = 9 hrs schedule you are given a 1 hr lunch. 8.5 to 5.5 hrs = 30 min lunch.

If your manager is forcing you a 1 hr lunch to reduce your pay and you are not scheduled a 9 hr shift this is illegal. When I was new they pulled this b.s. on me and i had to end it with a call to the union.

Not gonna happen cause Im aware of what goes on and if people try to stiff me with more work I just work slower. So dont worry that 60 pounds will be waiting for you after you finish your greasy cheeseburger.

Troll thread.

You only get what you are scheduled.

Where I work, the manager does NOT give you a choice to take a 30. What he says is either "hey do you want to take a 30 min lunch instead of an hour? Thanks. See you in 30. "

Or "take a 30 min lunch." So unless you have bonafide business to do on your lunch, you're taking a 30.

You only are forced to take a 1 hr lunch if you are schedule a 9 hr shift or 10 hr shift. If you are scheduled <9 hr lunch they are using the 1 hr lunch to reduce your pay by 30 min. Please remind them this is illegal and you have the right to go to the union.

Can you share a link to your publicly available union contract?

I'd like to discuss adding something similar with my local rep.

Just today they asked me to clock in early from lunch because there was an express order in picklist. They could have done it but almost NEVER will unless they cannot find anybody to do it. Then they begrudgingly do so.

Anyways I took the phone and scanner and signed in to see the order before I clocked in. As I was getting ready to do so, I overheared (the supervisior) tell a co-worker that "xxx is not a team player. I asked him to clock in and he seemed bothered."

Well I quickly unassigned myself from that order, went right outside and sat the rest of the time in my car. When I clocked back in, the order was a deep shade of red. Meaning it was late. Nobody started it.

I ended up doing it, bit my supervisor was P1SSED! Well, next time maybe they won't talk cr@p behind my back. And if they TRY to write me up (I'd tear it to pieces) it will be void because I was on lunch, and I could say I had a bit of an "emergency" that I needed to deal with.

Thank you!! You get it. And why cant they do it? What happens if I'm not there?  Do they let the order sit, turn red, and be extremely late? If they were to hire more people to help cover they wouldn't run into these type of problems and force people from other debts to help pick orders.
