I know that when u get hired u cant start at the top of the chain
u have to work for it
just wondering how long it takes to get promoted?
been working there for 3 months and i cover Utility, meat, frozen, and sometimes recieving, is this unsual for a courtesy clerk to be doing these things?
>all u coutersy clerks, IK how u feel, im one too<
just a little courios?
oh yeah and...
if u work on the holiday day, do u get paid 1 1/2 for the time ur on the clock? or am i paid at my regular pay?
I don't know about other stores but in our store yes a courtesy clerk can help in the areas you mentioned when needed but not normally on a everyday basis. As frozen dept head I have one helper and he works part time. During times when the load exceeds the hours I have available in frozen then I can use whatever help I need to get the job done. I try to keep my loads where that doesn't happen but during holidays it's impossible not to.
I am sure this happens in other parts of the store as well.

bich bich bich, why don't you just quit and quit wasting Kroger's money on another deadbeat employee who will probably be fired before long anyway.
I LOVE KROGER !!!!!

holiday pay is not a time and a half you get hours added to your check based on the number of average hours per shift you work (4,6,or8) so thse who work 8 hrs a day get an extar 8 hrs called holiday pay on your paystub at your regular payrate.
Kroger ruined my life! I was treated terribly by management from the beginning. I started as a bagger and it took seven months for me to become a cashier, even though I begged to move up constantly. My schedule was always messed up, with no regard for my availability. The only time I got a pay raise was when the national minimum wage went up and they had to give me a raise or break the law. Once I became a cashier, I was expected to work my tail off, and so developed carpel tunnel syndrome from all the scanning. Because of my low pay I wasn't able to go to the doctor, so I couldn't offer management "proof" of my condition and therefore they wouldn't take it seriously. I asked repeatedly to be transferred to a different job/department, but management consistently refused. And finally, my supervisor decided she hated me and started following me around, staring at me threateningly, and worst of all screaming at me in front of customers and other associates (raising her voice, calling me names, complaining about my "incompetence"). I asked her bosses to do something, and every time they would "talk to her", but after a few weeks she would start up again. I was with the company for 2 1/2 years, but I quit with less than 24 hours notice because of how upset they made me. I haven't set foot in a Kroger store since. This is the worst job I've ever had, and I strongly encourage anyone to steer clear of this company - either as a potential employee OR a shopper!!
my husband currently works for kroger and was head dairy and he never got any help when he needed it and got stuck doing everything by himself. they never even gave help to frozen food when they neeeded it and cut department hours for him and frozen. kroger in wv is pretty much on a good ol boy system. keep in mind they are all union stores in this state and you still get a job wrongfully taken away and dont want to see younger people get ahead. even when he was head night crew he always had head grocery and management telling the employees not to listen to the night boss. and threated them that they would get fired if they left when they supposed to. so needless to say he is back at another store working nights and if other places were hiring around here other than seasonal he would be outta there in a heartbeat and he;s been there four years, heck the union doesnt even help you they are pretty much for themselves.
The problem with Kroger is all the lazy *******s who work there that they refuse to fire because of the Union. The Union does help, but it hurts too making hard workers work twice as hard because they can't fire the good for nothing piece of **** workers that we have. I work at Kroger in Belpre, Ohio. I've been there about a year an a half, the management is great, and the employees are amazing, but theres just those times when things don't run right and I find myself doing 4 different peoples jobs at once.
I have to work thanksgiving tomorrow, for the second year in a row, while people who were just hired 1 month to 5-6 months ago are scheduled off. Seniority doesn't seem to mean ****.

I think the lazy people get to stick around because lasy managers refuse to follow up. The onces who take pride in thier work are challenged to do more, while the ones who don't work are ignored. If managment would follow up with employees not doing things correctly, they would get fired. Managment doesn't want to work through the red tape.
Frankly, I'm fed up with the double standards at Kroger.
I've been working for Kroger for 4 months and I love my job but I do 90% of the work in the deli everyone else all they wanna do is play on there phones listen to music and pretty much get a easy check but don't wanna work for it and I get my butt chewed all the time for stuff I didn't even have anything to do with it don't make sense that's really the only thing I dislike about the company is management don't wanna do anything about all these people I work with that don't do any work
I was recently told by top management that people in Utility are the last to get promoted. He said all utility people were lazy - obviously this is a man who had never done heavy cleaning.... We have utility people that are very bright and do multiple jobs also... The new Kroger (last 10 years) does not treat it's people well at all.... I am female, college grad, great with computers, and have been a manager on and off since I was in my early 20s.... They have not promoted me 1- female 2- gray hair (now 62 years old GM thinks I must not be computer literate....) Once you are in there plenty of middle managers will use you....
But keep working hard.... look into COSCO Ikea and Hobby Lobby they all start at higher pay and do look for people to promote.
Best of luck to you - you sound like a great person to work with.
Similar things happened to me... My manager kept confusing me with 3 other people including ones that look nothing like me and of other races... For weeks I calmly explaned that I needed 34 to 40 hours as soon as possible as I was trying to qualify for an apartment and needed 6 paychecks that show such hours....
To make it worse my the lead just over me kept saying that I was not doing my job.... very odd because I was overdoing in many areas - untrained in some and doing the best I can....
Turns out the lead wanted to promote 2 friends first.... Finally I reported to a middle manager... including problems of age-ism that I found etc. The Middle manager is trying to remedy things here and there.
So far not much has improved but things are getting better.... Still they have damaged my reputation with this chatter and now I have to start all over proving myself. So I asked to be transfered Immediately inside the store or out.... The lead over my lead is her best friend (problem there) but the Manager over her is a great leader and person... I feel so sorry for that manager. She will get hurt by them more than I will.
I have been working at Kroger for just over a year. I had to wait 9 months to become more than just a bagger. I valued my job despite the low pay and never showed less than a smile. I work hard everyday and yet don't get time and a half for the holiday. I am a little disappointed in that. I make 7.60 right now and possibly will be raised to 8.50 with my new position with Clicklist. For those baggers they (my store) have hired; most need to be fired. They do not take the lot seriously and are not very good at bagging, some have helped at the new store opening in Versailles, KY. For those who have been helping, a few have been good, but some immature workers are a big let down and a waste of pay from the company. I could complain all day about how my job may suck at times, but I understand the management. My managers are great, listen to me, and work with me. I am happy to have a job at my Kroger, best place to work where I live in my opinion. Stick with it, I am not going to be there long due to the fact I am heading off to college, but it has been a good experience for me being my first job.
I have the same problem. They have had me working mostly everything in the store but deli and GM and they always promised me a promotion. I dont see how that's fair, that i work my ass off and i just more tasks than my coworkers who drag their asses along. I just hope that i get a call back from CenturyLink soon.
I know this forum is outdated, but still might come across to some interested so im responding as this hasnt been reaponded to since 2015. At kroger, you get paid 1 1/2. So for example instead of making 7.75 an hour, if would be around $12ish. But theres some catches, as you have to be working for more then 30 days within kroger! Includes Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Easter and some other ones im not sure about
U get paid 4 hours extra.. full timers get 8 hours this is how it has been forever..
Not here. In order to qualify for holiday pay you need to work the day before AND after. If you dont you get zero. And the purposely gives people days off to negate the holiday pay. Great company

You've got a screwy contract. The only stipulation with ours is you lose your holiday pay if you have an unexcused absence.
