Leave of Absence

How do you go about taking a leave of absence for my last semester of school. I kind of want to quit, but just in case I can't get something else I'd like to have this as something to fall back on if I don't have a job lined up by the end of the semester.

Youll probbly just have to quit and if you need it back re apply and or call your hr manager.

But really just go up and talk to your hr person theyll know what to do and if there an ass ****er then just quit its not like its some big bad ass career or something.

Dude/Dudette - you can't!Kroger has no value for a person who would become more intellegent than the current heirarchy. You are a liabilty now, not an asset, because you are now smarter than a V.P., Division President, and a Group V.P. Listen to me - you need to go out on a Medical for "stress", with a Doctor's note, and hopefully you are eligible with the local UFCW to do that and get paid (while you finish your studies).DON'T SAY ANYTHING TO ANYBODY THAT YOU ARE FINISHING YOUR STUDIES. Your stressed out from Key Retailing, Core Values, Shelf Reviews, Scheduling, STAR, Think SHRINK, Team Stocking, Huddles, CAO, and the other hundred+ programs and checklists Kroger has. Your not screwing Kroger - your taking from the Union that Kroger paid into- take it and run !Make sure your Leave of Absence with Kroger is filled out and don't forget the Union form!

THere was a dude that took LOA at our store to help take care of his mother in CA. There is some paper worked involved I'm told. But we knew what the dude was really doing. He was going to work elsewhere but didn't want to lose a job. Thats a great way to test the waters before quiting.  SO he took LOA and they kept him on the schedule for at least 6 months. Needless to say,  hasn't been back in more than 9 months so I reckon he found better and is happy. They just took him off the schedule 2-3 weeks ago.hahahahaha

Oh my God. You can't be serious.

If you are going back to school for a semester - GREAT!  But you need to do things with good ethics and character.  Either stay on board and work a couple hours or just quit.

Don't screw around with other avenues cept you can go ask the HR if (s)he will allow a leave.  If the answer is no then make your decision to stay or quit.  Kroger will be around after school.

Don't be dishonest.  You only cheat yourself in the end.

I agree 100%...Do so with integrity and honesty. To maintain part time status you have to work a minimum of 16 hours a week.... If you can't handle 16 hours a week then you should just quit. Do not go through the union loop holes because what you end up doing is hurting the good working people at your store. These people rely on each other, and when someone takes a leave of absence, whether it be for health reasons, personal reasons, etc.. it really does hurt those that try to make an honest living by being short handed. They have to work harder which causes mores stress/injuries to the entire store. Please, for everyone at that stores sake that depends on that job and works hard, DO THE RIGHT THING!

the ONLY way that you can take a leave of absence is if you have a doctor's excuse, other than that you will have to request that you need all those days off, and you will have to do it every week until you can return to work after your semester is over. a leave of absence is for sick people not for people going to school.

you guys should really read your contract. I know ours backwards and forwards. You DO NOT have to be sick to request a leave of absence. You can request a personal leave of absence for ANY reason for up to 60 days.

Article 15 subsection B.

That doesn't mean it's auto approved, your store manager has to agree to it but he is compelled to agree to it unless he has a very good reason not to. If he refuses your LOA and does not have a good reason you can file a grievance and let the union take over the matter.

Its your union, use it.

ARTICLE 15. LEAVE OF ABSENCE
A. Request for leaves of absence must be made by the employee in writing to the Employer's Human Resource Office with a copy to the Union. Such requests must be made at least two (2) weeks prior to the desired date of leave, except in cases of sickness or injury or as otherwise specified below.
B. Personal Leave: Employees may be granted a personal leave of absence not to exceed sixty (60) days. The Employer will not arbitrarily deny such request.
