changing shifts/too much work load
Permalink

I have been asking to work more day shifts, or to switch over to day shifts completely for several reasons. One is that they often complain that I don't finish all of my work, which I admit to and attribute to extra work load being dumped on me. When i work day shifts I always get all of my work done. However, they will only give me one or two day shifts a week, and only if I remind them. I feel they just do this because they believe it will make me shut up.  It's getting a tad annoying.

By the way I work in bakery as a closer and get left by myself usually from about 1:00 (which is usually  when I come in) until we close. This means if someone decided to bake a bunch of pies, or bake a bunch of cookies, or didn't take out the trash, or didn't pick up their mess, or didn't put away the trucks into the freezer then it all gets stuck on me on top of the things I already have to do such as price and put outs, mark downs, and dough sets. I have expressed my concerns several times to managers and they only seem to pretend to understand what I am going through and pretend to want to help me out.

What is your senority? The day shifts are usually taken by staff members who have worked there the longest.

I would just do whatever you can during your shift and don't mention the issue to management about not able to do your workload plus whatever else comes your way. Do a time management chart on what you do every hour. That is - write down what you do. If they come to you and ask why this, that and the other thing were not done, you can show them what you did. Tell them that your Kroger magic wand never got ordered by them so you can not do the Hocus Pocus they are expecting!

But just relax and don't get frustrated over things you can not control. It isn't worth it. You sound like a caring employee which is good but apparently all the avenues you have tried are going unheard. So pretty much screw them till they get a clue!

Document what you do and get union involved if they bitch.

Good Luck
