Was on a forum and talking about out of dates. Had to wonder how long you can keep things after it expires. Asked our pharmacist and he said most over the counter and prescriptions will still be good for about 10 years or so. But liquids not as fong. Maybe 5 years or so. Found this site about dates and if they are still good. also have the charts for meats and poultry that they posted. Seems to come from Kroger wanting to write everyone up for one out of date item found in a department. Seems they are not as deadly as it seems.

If product has a "use-by" date, follow that date. If product has a "sell-by" date or no date, cook or freeze the product by the times on the following chart.
interesting, That's nice to have to check from time to time on questionable food items. I still wonder about dry groceries...like boxed dinners or even canned foods. I'll eat them a few months past date but anything over a year is pushing it. They probably have plenty of preservatives in them anyway

Technically, no. There is not much to go "bad" with ingredients like water, sugar and caramel coloring. Treat soft drinks like any other canned goods
Does flour have an expiration date?
There are no legislated expiration dates for flour in fact dry goods like flour, sugar and even pasta rarely have more than an encoded date. In the case of most flours there is nothing to spoil so it does not "expire". The exception being the higher the fat content the shorter the shelf life. An example is whole wheat flour.
What does is the sell by date I see on food packages?
This date is provided by the manufacturer. Although it is not legislated (except for a few items) this is the date by which the seller should sell the product. This does not mean the food is unsafe to eat after this date
What is the expiration of date powder sugar?
Dry goods such as sugar, salt, flour (except flour with high fat content) really don't have any expiration dates and in fact they are rarely dated at all. All of these products remain wholesome for several years if stored in a cool dry location.
When do you throw away canned goods from grocery store?
Some, but not all canned goods have "best by" dates printed on the can but most can be stored beyond that date. . Low acid foods such as such as meat and vegetables can be store for up to 2 to 5 years. High acid foods can be kept for up to 18 months.
Sometimes it's a health issue, but mainly is a customer perception issue. Food in a store is supposed to be fresh and IN DATE, when it's not, the customer feels like the store is being lazy and not even checking so does that mean they also don't check the dangerous items?

It's all about perception.
I will agree. Just this idea of how fresh and dood things are came from cleaning a friends home out and finding things out of daye by years.
