If I transfer to another division do I lose my insurance for 6 months? This is the information I received from the secretary at my new store. She said since I am new to the division I am regarded as a new employee therefore I have no insurance for 6 months. She thinks this is the case but is not sure. Does anyone know for sure? The only accurate and timely information I have received has been from this forum! I transfered from King Soopers (Colorado) to Tennessee (Kroger).

Thank You
Interesting. It could be a contract issue. There are different chapters of the UFCW that cover certain regions, so Colorado to Tennessee would be an obvious jump.
Where I am at in WV is about an hour outside of an Ohio store that is covered under the Columbus contract. The pay scale and even dress code is completely different under the contract (The Ohio store is allowed to wear jeans, we are required to wear dress pants). I used to live in Kentucky and two of the stores are covered in the same zone that we are, while another one in Wheelersburg Ohio is in the Columbus district as well.
I've always been under the impression that you can transfer (or at least be hired on given you are already indoctrinated in the Kroger way) if you move to another area. Not all Kroger stores pay or operate the same way though. Depending on where you are at in Tennessee, you could be making more or less than you did in Colorado.

I also transferred and i didn't lose my insurance. as long as you are with kroger for longer than 15 months you have your insurance. the only thing that you would have lost would have been your seniority, and that's because your transferred from one district zone to another district zone. had you have stay in your same district then you would have kept your seniority. as far as the insurance goes, no you shouldnm't have lost your insurance. if they are telling you otherwise than you need to talk to the union man and is in your zone and ask him about the insurance.
This is what pisses me off about the Union. Theres NO uniformity. Same Union in all regions but different contracts. WHY????????
Cross a state line into another zone and its a different company with even crappier benefits. Part time in one is upto 38 hours. Go to a bordering state and its upto 32. Seems like there would be NO need to hire a FT with PT working 38 hours aweek.
JUST NO UNIFORMITY!!!!! Kroger wants everyone to dress alike, all the stores to work the same and be just like Walmart. But they DON'T WANT TO HAVE UNION CONTRACTS ALIKE.

Really? Can you imagine one big giant union? You would never get anywhere with any issues. We are organised under the UFCW and seperated into LOCALS. My local and your local have the same objective to protect us and make sure our contract is fair and balanced.
Of course the contracts vary by location, so do state miniumn wages or city miniumn wages. If the cost of living is lower in your area, your contract reflects a lower pay rate. I would hate to have the same contract as everyone else.
We would hurt ourselves if we had the same exact contracts.
