a customer comes up to me and say that she would like to get refunded for this gift card, and i explain to her that we can not do it because it has no vaule on it and doing so will result in a cash lost,
but i asked her what the problem was, she said the cashier for got to ask for my kroger plus card, i then say i am sorry about that let me look at your receipt and see who your cashier was so that i can explain to them that before an order is started you have to ask for plus card first.
she gives it to me and guess who the cashier was?
Self check out
i then tell her, Mame from the receipt it states that you were the cashier, you went through self check out. the computer asks you if would like to scan your plus card. she then says she didnt hear any thing,
i was nice to do it, but i took a risk, she just wanted her 4x fuel points, i do a quick 48 sign on and she was off on her way.
when i was working at U scan, i had a woman come up to me saying that the pin pad didnt offer her cash back.
Well when i told her there was nothing i could do about that and that if it doenst offer cash back then it means credit was used, she then started cussing me out saying that i should've been paying attention instead of texting and playing on my " stupid black box phone" (she was talking about the mobile device used to control U scan)
she then demanded to speak to a manager. she spoke to my manager, insulting me in every sentence while i stood right there, and my manager did nothing. Turns out the woman used a card that doesnt allow cash back. It pisses me off that no one defended me or told the woman she was using a damn credit card so that she would stop cussing me out.
Had a customer come to the deli in my store the other day to pick up a party tray he swore he called in at 10 a.m. Well it was 11:30 and there were only three of us in the deli at the time and the girl who waited on this customer was the only one who has answered the phone all day, and that was all chicken orders.
She asked the man if that was the store he ordered it at and then he started cussing her. She was trying to tell the guy she would call and find the order because we didn't have it. But the old fart continued cussing her and left. Said he was going to call the corporate office over this bs!
Come to find out that he not only didn't order the tray at our store, he ordered it another Kroger on the other side of town.
I never stood for a customer to curse at me or any other employee. They got one warning to clean up their language or I would be unable to continue to help them. I even told corporate once on a complaint when this happened that I would continue to refuse assistance to a customer who was cursing at me or an employee. I just got stares.

One of the coolest displays of good management I ever saw was the summer I worked for Lowe's Home Improvement. Had an Indian guy come in for an order; apparently, the ware house had messed up and not sent it. He went through each and everyone of us, cursing and calling us the foulest names you've ever heard in your life. He just destroyed three ascending levels of management-----until he got to the store manager. THAT guy took this Indian curry basted prick's invoice, ripped it in two, basically threw it in his face and said "I'm cutting you a refund. After that, get the HELL OUT OF MY STORE."
OH yea, the store manager caught major heat for it....But he never backed down, never lost his job.
You did nothing wrong, but one thing people have to realize is that management is not in the union, our jobs are more protected than theirs. so they have to watch what they say.... but i had managers who would back me up.. which is good, but i do not expect it.

At my store we get that every so often, especially cake orders.
Except it happens with Wal-mart, since we're the only Kroger in town.
Also happened with another grocery store in town before it closed a couple years ago.
Out of curiosity, why did you use 48 sign on? (at least in my district we're not supposed to use that unless instructed by support) Much easier to just call the support center and just have them add the fuel points..
But if you want to have a complaint competition:
I had a customer complain on me because they found my accent offensive and racist, I am white, and so was the customer...What?

I use the 48 signon function if they didn't get points due to OUR fault. Refunds the card, then I issue another one. And no, it's not easier to call the support center, at least not here. I can have the customer out the door by the time I'd still be navigating an automated menu.
Anybody remember when we had a code to add fuel points to an order when someone had reusable bags? Well, I've been toying with an item I made in the system to try to bring back that functionality for CS use. Used the model of the upc the pharmacy uses to add fuel points when someone buys a prescription and doesn't scan their card. Had it working at one point, but gotta fix it now...
