Lunch question
Permalink

I have a 330p - 10p day next week. It's listed as a 6 hour shift so I guess they put the extra half hour there for a lunch break. If I don't take a lunch break, can I clock out at 9:30?

I think they might want you to help with closing. I was once 'forced' to stay my last 15 minutes on break so I could get that extra 0.25 hour of pay.

Some schedule writers will let you work the whole time. You might even be able to get away with it without asking. I doubt they'll just let you leave early though.

Yeah it's not a cut-and-dried yes/no situation. It's all up to your supervisor based on how busy you are at that time and how important your shift is then.

At our store, you need to take the lunch or face termination.  People do skip lunch so they can leave 30 minutes early but have been warned.  And that is for an 8 hour shiift.  Kronos red flags that missing 30 minutes and sends a note to the manager.

If you leave 30 minutes early without getting permission, you basically walked off the job and quit.

Ask your department manager if you can skip lunch and leave 30 minutes early.  Or store a manager only.  The answer varies from store to store.

If it's listed as a six hour shift, it's pretty clear to me that they are wanting you to take the lunch break and clock out when the shift ends.

does that mean management or someone in the company knows every time i was denied my 30 min break for "needs of the business" reasons?  i'd love a listing.

Are you a Department manager or Department lead?

I work midnights so rarely am I paged for anything.  If I am, all my breaks have already been taken.  I have started a lunch, gone outside to smoke and will see the supertruck pull in.  I have the keys to the kingdom and no one else knows how to use the machinery so I will log back in from a 15 minute break and take my lunch break later.

I realize very little gets done on days because of all the pages, needy customers and the need for more cashiers from all departments because of Q vision.  It is a miracle any work gets done at all!

You need to ask your union rep how you are supposed to get your full 30, 15, 15 minute break without being paged for "needs of the business".

Ask them, "If I am clocked out for a break and get paged, will I be fired for answering the page while clocked out?"  Working off the clock is illegal and management will terminate you for it.
