Why in God's name do they have to torment both customers and employees to death, with that 24 hour overhead radio/music nightmare, constantly blaring away??????
(Who goes to the store to have to listen to Dillon's Radio garbage??!!)
I absolutely loathe being "forced to listen to" overhead music wherever one goes -- particularly black screech, and screaming divas -- vocal music of any kind...
not to mention those hideous Christmas Carols, that are fractured to death, sung either screaming, or in dull off the wall monotones, and NEVER the way they were written.
Really makes life unpleasant. Wal-Mart cut out that crap quite some time ago, and it makes for much pleasanter shopping.
Last year our Christmas song line up was '50 renditions of Walking In A Winter wonderland, the year before was Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, and the year before that, Frosty the snowman. This year I believe, we are do to get Jingle Bells or Rudolph. Again.
The Wal-Mart in my town plays music. They also now call people up to run register. It's quite odd seeing as how Kroger is their biggest competition in the area.
Thank you. The store's soundtrack SUCKS really hard. It seems even louder in the back somehow. It's torture.
The back of my store is always too loud from the baler, pallet jacks, and constant arguing over crap like, who didn't lock 'the cage', whose turn it is to use the baler, and whose fault it is that X piece of equipment isn't working. At like 9 to 10 between the hours that day crew leaves yet before night crew comes in is this thing called Heaven, wherein the only other soul in the back is some kid doing the trash.
If I am not mistaken the music comes through satellite. All the stores in one division have the same song playing at the same time. I never heard of a store having their own music set up. It comes by they same satellite that KTV uses. And I was told it even plays on Christmas day the manager said he came to check the store and they phones were ringing off the hook and the music was blaring loud.
As far as how the music comes in, I don't know about the selection, but it comes in through a network connected PC located in the office or server room. In most of the stores I was in, it looked like a standard HP desktop, that is connected into the PA system. And yes, it's blaring even on Christmas Day. Every time I would come in and check on the store, on Christmas Day, it was blaring Christmas Music all day.

This is not true at all. Every store will have different songs playing because someone who cares enough to do it will fax in a paper which lets them specify how much of which genres gets played and when they get played.

Well, I'm in the Mid South division and between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM today I heard 3 songs by Phil Collins, a Backstreet Boys song, and a Linda Ronstadt song. Of course there were others, but those were the ones I happened to catch.

And that sounds exactly like the system is working as I described.

In my store there is almost never a person in the back at any time of the day. Only time people are back there is when we have a delivery.
