I was wondering what if anything can be done about a store manger that smokes on the back dock. I think it is inconsiderate and downright disrespectul. Many employees feel the same way but everyone is afraid to do anything about it.
In most states, it is illegal to smoke in most commercial buildings. The FDA would throw a fit.
It is definitely against Kroger policy to smoke inside the store.
Most back docks have cameras.
Unless this manager knows someone in upper management, they could be fired if caught. Think long and hard before you report it.
You could send an anonymous report to www.ethicspoint.com with your store number. They will relay it to the corporate offices. I think this is anonymous.
Is it inside the store or outside? My manager used to smoke crack on the back dock, but since it was outside the store they didn't do anything about it.
I filed one against my store manager who was walking around the store talking on her cell phone all day. She stopped and has treated us much better. She realized she wasn't above the law of Kroger.
My manager takes smoke breaks all the time by the dock. The receiver even joins in sometimes. Now why would you want to report a laid back manager, when Kroger is just going to send you a stricter one? Maybe the next one will bitch at you for clocking in 2 minutes late. Who knows.
I wouldn't say anything if it were me, but it's your choice. Smoking manger to me means that I'm actually left alone to do my work I need to get done. Otherwise I'm bugged all day to do tasks thy aren't even my responsibility
It mostly depends on how strict or lenient your store leader is. I regularly use the Zyn pouches on the sales floor, and every store leader I've ever had has been okay with it. I even convinced my current store leader into trying it out.
In addition. I am fortunate to live in a state which put into law about 16 years ago that people can't be discriminated or fired for "lifestyle discrimination", meaning that the company cannot fire somebody for using nicotine even on their own time.

Report that piece of shit. **** smelling that cigarette smoke.
Nicotine is a murderously addictive chemical. The way the makers of Marlborow cigarettes manipulate its levels in their products, for instance, has created a nation of zombie junkies.
I'm kinda torn on how smoking should be handled in the work place, cuz although I'm grateful I was able to escape that insanity, I well understand those still going through it.
I guess all I can say is, if they're doing their work, not blowing the s h it in YOUR face and aren't actively bothering others, well...leave em be.
Too many snitches in the world already. Those people seriously need their heads beat in, and I think we're gonna start seeing alot of that as time moves on.
Unless management cares they'll probably get away with it. Most states have laws forbidding people smoking within 25 ft of a store front. it is illegal to smoke inside or next to a door. You can suggest a verbal complaint but I highly doubt they'll do anything about it. Only when food safety regulations did a walk and see people smoking outback by the emergency exits did they finally crack down on it at our store. Before that they were dic-ks about it. You can send an email to food safety regulations to see if there's anything that can be done about it but I highly doubt they'd actually crack down on it.
