What's Kroger's policy on reducing the price of items for customers at checkout? I usually get at least one person per shift saying that some item rang up at the wrong price and I don't always have a courtesy to go price check them.
Find someone to check the price for you. It is possible the item was placed in the wrong spot and the customer saw the wrong price.
Ask your ASCM. If the register rings up the wrong price, the policy used to be to give the customer $5 if the register rang up the wrong price. The customer will need to go to to Customer service for the overcharge refund and the $5. I am not sure if this is the policy anymore so don't qoute me.
Confirm that the wrong price rang up. If the item is under $10 they get the first one free, and the rest at the corrected price. If it's over $10 they get a $5 gift card.
Let me clarify that the previous 2 posters are quoting policies specific to their division and are almost guaranteed to be incorrect unless OP happens to be in one of these divisions. OP, you need to clarify what policy is in your area.

Be careful taking this task upon yourself at the register. There is a reason why the Kroger Company has a procedure for Checks and Balances in cases like this as well as a CAMERA above EVERY register. You are REQUIRED to perform a price check and if there is a discrepancy follow your Division's policy for ringing that item up Free or at the lower price. When you overide the price at ANY register it will require a SUPERVISOR OVERIDE to confirm the transaction is legit...overriding ANYTHING causes your number AND transaction to be flagged...too many or too often of these without following proper procedure can lead to Loss Prevention investigation and termination...THERE's a camera recording ALL TRANSACTIONS...
management may have given some discretion to your front end supervisors to make the call on things like gallons of milk being on sale but being out so a price correction is done to honor the sale price with two half gallons, etc. but their discretion is not yours as a lowly cashier.
