I wish they had saved their money and bought something better for us instead of investing in an HD tv for the break room that doesn't even get cable channels. 90% of the time it's turned to the news by the old people who work in our store anyway. The controller is sticky and I don't want to touch it.. It's just noisy and unnecessary and honestly has driven me out of the breakroom. What can you even watch in 15 minutes anyway?
People have donated old tube TV's to the store for the last year or so, went through about 7, they've all been terrible and gross, finally the store finally broke down and got a flat screen to hang on the wall. lol Still only gets basic channels(digital converter box), but it's something to those that use it.
When I was helping one of the newer remodeled stores open again, they had 2 50" TV's on the wall, with 2 couches and around 3 tables with chairs, and lots of snack/drink machines. Talk about a break room lol

We have three 50" tv's in our store: breakroom, bistro, and pharmacy. They're hooked up to Direct TV. Even with all the available channels, people still end up watching the local channels. The breakroom has several tables and chairs and four very comfortable armchairs that are big enough for some people to curl up in.
You've got to be kidding me, tv's in the breakroom? I was eating lunch in our breakroom one day and the comanager actually came in with two courtesy clerks and picked up the table. Told me take my lunch somewhere else. Seriously, took the table right out from under me!

I'd file a grievance. Your lunch is suppose to be 30 uninterrupted minutes. That was definitely an interruption. Surely they could have found a table somewhere else.

Our breakroom has one nasty dirty table, one filthy coffee pot and I've only opened the microwave once, it was so bad I haven't opened it since. Along both walls there are eight desks. So it's really more of an office space. I don't ever go in there unless I have to use the computer or make a phone call. This happened awhile back and a grievance would have been too much trouble. Gotta pick your battles.

At least you have a controller. We have to hop up on the sink counter and manually change the channel through the buttons on the side.

You misunderstood the law. It doesn't mean you can't be disturbed, "30 uninterrupted minutes" means you cannot be asked to work during your break (mop something up, jump on register, carry something out for a customer etc.) and make the up the time it took you doing it at the end of your break. Or being told your 30 minute break must be two 15 minute breaks,,etc...

Our contract allows two 15 minute breaks which can, with managements approval, be combined to one 30 minute break. We usually all take 30 minutes but sometimes I ask to split my breaks.
We have a flat screen TV in our breakroom. Some comfy chairs would be nice though, we have 3 round tables in there with plastic chairs. I'm not complaining though because our room seems better than what some of you guys are talking about.

I only go to the break room to check my schedule and get food during parties. Oh, and to make sure no one drew on my Employee of the Month picture! Our break room sounds about the same. My younger coworker is trying to talk me into buying a samsung 4G or 5G phone(I don't care for latest tech gadgets). He demonstrated an app on his phone where he could use his phone as a remote for the breakroom tv.. :)
One of the stockers fell asleep on the couch in the breakroom last night. The lights won't come on after midnight other than a dull glow and so he passed out lol. I've got to admit, the couch is extremely comfortable haha.

Sometimes when I'm alone in the breakroom, I sit so still that the lights (which are motion sensing) turn off. It's kind of nice, so I leave it like that lol. It's always funny when someone comes in and finds me in the dark though.

You don't get a meal break after working a certain amount of hours?

4 hours we get a 15 minute break, 7 hours we get two 15 minute breaks which can be combined to a 30 minute break.
We have a tv in the breakroom that USED to get basic cable. Usually it was set to talk shows (jerry springer, judge Judy etc) or the news. Now it's been set up for Store Broadcasts that NOBODY is allowed to change under threat of disciplinary action. But nobody tunes into the broadcasts (that we already know) at all. It's stupid. Any broadcast can be sent video feed through the store computer then relayed to us, or have us watch it throughout the day. We have more than one store computer so we can have 2-3 people watch at a time.
That's how it is here. If you work 8 hours, you get 2 15 minute breaks, if there's time to take them.
So you work 8-4, not 8-4:30.
I would make the time myself if I had to. I did it once when I was a courtesy clerk. It was super busy and I needed to have my final break. I asked and they refused but sent me in carts instead. Well after 20 min of carts I helped myself to that break. I ran and got something to eat at a small store within the shopping center and then came back. The asm saw me and grinned. He knew what I did. The FEM was PISSED! But hey, I am entitled to my breaks. You can either give them to me, or I will take them myself.
