Part of me just wants to walk out

And tell my manager that if she thinks she can run this department better than all of us - good, do it by yourself.

If I had something lined up, I'd do it. The only problem is that yes there are a couple people I would miss. But they also want out of here. My manager has done nothing but make our lives hell. Nothing we can do is good enough for her. Even though she can go up in the HR lady's office and talk to her for 2 hours while pretending to be "working on the schedule.". Even the deli manager has noticed it, but no one has the balls to do anything. Two of the co's are in her back pocket, and the 3rd kind of agrees with us but then says "But i'm not the perishable co". In other words, he won't do sh*t either.

I'm just so tired of being the screwup that can't do anything right no matter how hard I work. She doesn't order something that we need, that's my fault for not writing it down. I accidentally took a cupcake order, forgetting that we ran out of cupcakes. What store runs out of cupcakes in the first place? But shouldn't a co be able to track her some down? I always thought we aren't supposed to refuse orders. But she called me this morning pissed about it. Even though she constantly screws up orders. Many weeks we don't get supplies because she "does the order" then forgets to go upload it to the system. She's constantly on her phone while she's supposed to be working, and then will go and disappear for minutes or hours at a time doing god only knows what.

She has all the time in the world for her church and her volunteering helping people with a bad past get jobs - which is a nice thing to do but why do all these "good" things and then treat your employees like total crap? Not very Christian like if you ask me.

I mean she got into an argument with someone in the deli a couple days ago about freaking stickers. You know the orange ones that we put on sale items? All the lady did was ask for like 5 of them. My manager is all like, "we only have one roll, I don't know where they are, I just got here" Bull. She knows where we store them, she just can't be bothered to help anyone. Even though we're ALWAYS borrowing deli supplies. So the deli lady was like "nevermind forget about it" and my manager got more offended and stomped off saying "Don't you ever talk to me like that again". This lady has health problems and has a lot to deal with right now and I don't blame her for walking away from the situation. But nooooooo in my manager's mind, it was another example of someone being out to get her.

I'm just so fed up with this crap. Things would have been so much better if they had given the bakery manager position to the assistant deli manager like they were going to. She got jipped on that one too. they promised it to her, knowing she didn't have cake decorating experience, then changed their mind when they realized they'd have to send her to a training class. She could have done it. She knew how to order, how to schedule, all the important things. She would have been a great manager.

If anyone actually read this, what should I even do? I'm pretty sure I'm getting a write up tomorrow because I took the order for a product we were out of. But I don't really care.

Don't walk out because of the job stress.  Put in a two weeks notice if you have something better lined up.  Don't let co workers get under your skin anywhere.  I got the best revenge I could ever get on my department manager.  I got transferred full time to another store and they love me there!  The department at my old store is a catastrophe without me.

I like working for Kroger.  I get irritated at coworkers that do a half decent job but, that is up to them what they make of it.  I ignore their incompetence, do what I do best and let them do whatever they want.

I am not sure what contract you were hired under, but if you have enough years and a decent payscale, it's not easy finding a better paying job longterm.  Paycuts and hour cuts are happening everywhere in retail and beyond.  If you are in school, use Kroger as a stepping stone to get thru school so you can get much better jobs.

As for a write-up, don't fret.  Acknowledge the write-up but refuse to sign.  Yes, it is possible to get cupcakes from another Kroger.  I have seen Produce and Meat department managers borrow from each other all the time.  If you don't have a mile long wrap sheet of write-ups(Yes, I have been reading your posts :), but I might have you mixed up with mega-kitteh), you should be ok.)

Best advice, never ever get caught up in work drama wherever you work.

Don't worry, be happy.  In 100 years, this last week won't matter to anyone.

If the department manager gets way too out of control, there is a way for employees to file complaints with HR.  Stick with facts, delete the drama.  15 years ago, HR would step in and make sure the person should really be in a leadership role.  Now, I am not sure what HR would do.

I suggest you start documenting everything.  If she blame you for not ordering something, write it down with the time and date.  If she spends two hours just talking to someone, write it down with the time and date.  It helps to have witnesses too.  Anytime she screws something up, write it down with the time and date.  If you work in a large bakery like me, it does help if people write down what they need to get their job done.  You do have to remember to think ahead though.  Since we get orders everyday, I have to think 2 days ahead.  Write it down one day.  It gets ordered the next.  Then, it comes in the day after that.  If you break out something, bread for example, and you don't have enough to get you through the next two breakouts, then you need to order it.  If everybody does that, then things don't get out of hand.  Of course on certain things you need to make sure you have enough to cover last minute orders.  I always keep a couple extra cupcakes and donut rings on hand for those surprise orders one often finds first thing in the morning.  There's nothing like getting to work at 5:00 AM and seeing an order for 20 dozen donuts due out at 6:00.

I can't go to HR at least not in my store. She's literally best friends with the HR lady.

And no I don't have a mile long list of write ups :) I have one maybe two from the past. But nothing too major.

Ive been there 3 years.

And to the second anon, we already try to do that now, keeping track of what needs to be ordered. But somehow the cupcakes got missed. But surely that is an item that should be ordered all the time. Here we don't get trucks every night, we don't get frozen trucks on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

If I go in tomorrow and see a write up or Significant Incident Report, what happens if i rip it up into little pieces and leave it? Because I dont' think she works tomorrow but if I see any write up or snotty note there I'm likely to explode.

Wow, at first I thought you were talking about one of my old managers, but then you mentioned she does volunteer work and mine would never help out another human being. My point is that these are the type of managers that Kroger hires anymore due to the pay scale. I've been there for 13 years so I really can't find something else at the pay I get but you could look around while biding your time and have a good chance of getting something of equal or even better pay.

Don't tear up the write up. Just refuse to sign it.

Under our contract they can't use a write up against you after 6 months.  So, you get to start over with a clean slate.

Well, on Saturday some interesting stuff went down. My manager forgot to put an order on for like 2 days in a row. Saturday, I ran the bill for the truck and we saw that again, no truck delivery had come in. I told our baker, and she called a comanager. He checked and sure enough, there was no truck that came in the night before for us. He told her to put an order on. Well another one of my coworkers had already called my dept. head, asking if she had ordered anything.

She called us a while later, after the baker had put on the order for 166 pieces. We had to do an order that big, because we had gone like 5 days (during Christmas week) without a truck. She flipped the hell out on her as well as another coworker on the phone. I would have hung up on her if she had yelled at me like that.

Both of them were super pissed off and ready to quit. On the way out after finishing the bake, she talked to our store manager who said she'd talk to our dept. Head on Monday. She promised she'd take care of it.

Well it's Tuesday and as far as I know, they haven't talked to her yet (unless they are tonight, she is working late tonight). In fact, again, the HR lady was back there for over 20 minutes chatting about whatever their friends are up to, and one of the co's even came back there and joined in the conversation! This is why nothing is getting done about it.
