WV's min wage went from 7.25 to 8.00, on 1/1/2015. I was making 8.10 that's .85 higher than the people starting out. The min wage goes up and I did get a raise however it was only by .40. Which has me making 8.55 (increases to 8.65 in march).
So here I am almost 5.5 years in and I lost the .85 and am now only making .55 over the children. I'd be paid more if it were based on experience pay, for heaven sake!

Ohio's minimum wage went up to 8.10, from 7.95. That should give me a raise of 15 cents theoretically. well, they gave me a raise from 8.40 to 8.45, making me only 35 cents above the people who are just now hired after working there 3 years. So i'm in the same boat as you basically :(
Could be worse, when I was hired in 2011, the minimum wage in Ohio was $7.40. So at least Ohio has done a lot of wage increases lately.
When does your current contract expire? It might be better with the next negotiations.
The contract was just renegotiated in Sept, I believe. I know they gutted our life insurance policy, for no apparent reason.
What happened with normal clerks wages? Were they more in line with the minimum wage bump or less like CC? The reason I ask is because some divisions don't give any raises to CC at all, so they may be using that as leverage to not bump them up as much.
This is the result of higher minimum wages... Everyone starts out higher and the people who have been faithful to the conpany are screwed over with minimal raises to even out payroll. Oh and the cost of living generally increases too. :/
Honestly, I don't understand how you can stay at a job that is undervaluing you so much. If my payscale didn't have me getting just over a $6/hr raise within the next year or two, I wouldn't even bother. I'd never stay with Kroger if I knew that being there for FIVE YEARS would only get me another $1.30/hr over the federal minimum wage.
You are worth SO MUCH MORE! There are jobs out there, grocery store ones even, that pay better!

A lot of people use this as a supplementary income and snag the health insurance too, so total compensation isn't bad if you have a better day job.

Yep, I'm only working a few days a week now and only the hours I want to work. I work for one of those in home healthcare companies making more starting out than the whole of the 5.5 years I've put in with Kroger.

Here in Michigan we went up to $8.15 near the 3rd quarter of last year. IT kind of sucks because the way the contract worked was that people were supposed to go to 8.5 after two years (fuel station). The old Minimum wage used to be $7.45. Now with such a big leap, my two years is making me barely more than what a new hire makes. At least I get my 40 hours a week!
