Receiving Clerk Working Bread?

Just want to know how many of you Receiving Clerks (or employees that know of Receiving Clerks) that are made to work the Bread at your store?

I know in the smaller Krogers that it is common but what about the "Super" Krogers with the Fuel Station.

Thanks.

That task was always given to our morning grocery people. I'm in a super small store too.

This is one of the largest Krogers in the state and the Clerk is responsible for Receiving by their self and the Bread (ordering and rotation) also.

The Clerk has now been wrote up (for the bread) because they don't have the time to do Receiving as it should be and do the Bread the way this rouge Manager wants it to be done.

The Manager makes you take any overtime off so there is not enough hours in a regular work week to do both properly.

Options?

How many grocery clerks do you have during daytime?

The DSD receiver is a grocery clerk.

A long time ago, the Receiver would run blue totes(if any), cookies, crackers and bread on Wednesdays because there were no DSD deliveries that day.  The rest of the week, a grocery clerk would be assigned to run them.  The receiver would be working only on receiving the rest of the week.

The DSD clerk should speak to their union rep before the write-ups get to be too many.

It's been many years now since I've last seen a receiving clerk work bread. Someone from Dairy usually does it, or they have a morning person for Grocery.

There are 5 other Grocery Clerks. The shift that is worked by the Receiving Clerk now is 4-12 and at that time there are 2 other Clerks. They come in at 6 and 10. The other 3 come in later in the day. The Manager insist that the Receiving Clerk work the Bread while also running Receiving.

The Clerk spoke to the Union Rep at the store and has been told to fight the write up because she (store Rep) was not present when they wrote the Clerk up, they wrote the Rep's name on the write up without her permission and there were no witnesses present when the Clerk was notified and signed the write up. The assistant Manager was made to write the Clerk up and has been now told by the Manager that he would remove the Clerk from Receiving if the Clerk made a fuss about it.

Also the write up stated that the Bread was improperly rotated but the 3 other Clerks that work the bread when the Receiving Clerk is not there were not wrote up.

When you sign a write up you are validating what management said.  Do not sign them.  Now that the reciever has signed that write up he is stuck to try to get the bread done or face more punishment.  Thats an impossible task, unless you have nothing coming in.

Not if they wrote the reps name on the statement without her knowledge or permission.  that's fraud and a much bigger problem than rotating bread.

Receiving clerks serve at the unit manager's pleasure.  My guess is they want to make a change.

I wonder how the stores that work the bread deal with the business side of things. Surely they must be getting some kind of discount from the vendor if they are doing vendor work. Most bread vendors here hire a pullup person to come in on their off days to work it from the back.

We normally have 2 Grocery Clerks around in the morning. The first person comes in at 6am-2:30pm to work bread and run totes. The Dept head or Assistant Dept head (depending on schedule) comes in at 7am-3:30pm and makes out orders and setup displays/run reviews/OOS. Our final guy comes in at 4pm-9pm and does replenishment (Checking break, running backstock, OOS, Milk, and eggs.

The DSD clerk is constantly checking in vendors and doing markdowns so it's almost impossible for 1 person to receive, do markdowns, make bails, and keep things clean while ALSO having to do a job that takes 3-4 hours that consist of stocking, marking down, and rotating bread items. That's insanity!

Kroger brand is DSD here, so that is why it's confusing to me.   The only bread items that are not DSD are the Kroger brand sandwich thins that frozen food now does as of 2 months ago.  Everything else aside from bakery is DSD.
