How far back do Kroger background checks look?

Recentlay relocated to the Atlanta Georgia area. My boyfriend has a misdemeanor embezzlement charge on his record from 2009 when he was 18. It has made it difficult for him to find employment. However I assume as the years go by and the further in the past this conviction is the less terrible it'll look.

Long story short, he had an interview for a night stocker position at Kroger. He did divulge this conviction on his application. The interview went well and he is now having a background check ran on him. How far back do Kroger background checks look for misdemeanors? I have heard some companies do 7 years (Which still puts my BF in the far end of that window).

If it does still appear on his background check what are the odds of it preventing him from getting hired? He has held down numerous jobs without incident in the years since. Three years ago or so he had an interview that went well with a Kroger store in Virginia but after running the background check the store never got back with him. I don't understand why they would even run the check and deny him employment based on it when he fully divulged his conviction on his original application.

It's 7 years, if I recall. That's how far back records are kept on your credit report... for things like convictions those can be kept indefinitely depending on the offense and if it was a felony or not.

and it really depends on the person that does the hiring. Most want a 100% clean record and if he's been hired since then it will more than likely be his previous employers that could make or break his next job. If he had a decent relationship with them it could help a lot.

I know for a fact that it is no more than 7 years or I would not working.

 

Unsure about felonies.

Oh that depends on a lot even on felonies. Like if you have a connection in the company for one. Some people they wouldn't give a second look to. Other people can be fresh out of prison and get hired.

UPDATE: He got an e-mail with a link to the portal welcoming him to the team. He was told after receiving that e-mail to give the manager a call to set up a time to come get his uniform and whatnot. However upon calling today he was told all training slots had been filled and she would call back on Thursday. What does "All training spots have been filled" mean?

I'm probably just being paranoid. It really sounds like he got the job, doesn't it?

New hires have to do training on the computer.  They only have a certain amount of computers.  Those slots are full.  He will have to wait until they schedule another day for the next round of new hires.

I just got my background check from Kroger back today they went all the way back to 2011. I live in Ohio.  I never knew that they were aloud to even go back that far. Actually it was farther they have a old address listed that I forgot about from 2004....it's 2023. So yeah needless to say even though my conviction is from 2011 they fired me!

 This is the same company oh-so desperate for help, but they're pulling petty sh!t like this??!! You're better off. Nothing you'da done wouda been good enough. 

btw............F U C K retail. Get into the trades, anything to do with industrial/construction. You make great $$ and there's almost nothing BUT people with crimininal backgrounds there! lol

 Depends. I had zero and they took 1 month. While others had 2 weeks.

Kroger is incredibly erratic in terms of policy.  HR may be required to screen for undercover law enforcement agents.  This will require going back to childhood friends and school records.  Something that could be used for blackmail purposes or a handy excuse for termination may be needed.  Screening for private investigators and agents from law firms is always needed.  The background check never ends and can include everything from birth on.

Yet they can be very careless.careless.

Kinda sucks, especially when jobs are scarce, so watch out.
