Just Had My Last Shopping Trip At Kroger
Permalink

It's just not worth it.  The employees are so hateful and rude.  The store is never stocked.  Just in the last week, 3 trips to Kroger here's what happened:

1.  Cashier had a fit when I told her the code for a white onion.  She said "I'm not going to put up with that, I'm not having any of it" real hateful.  I told her sorry, I was just trying to help.  Luckily I saw the manager talking to a guy from corporate over by the service center so I was more than happy to tell them both.  Seriously, how wrong is saying "4663" to the cashier?  She was spinning that dang produce wheel around and around trying to find the code and the line was backed up and I wanted to go home.

2.  Stepped in something like syrup in front of the dairy case.  Almost pulled of my flip flop.  I saw a produce guy coming out from the back room and told him and he just walked on by.  Didn't stop to even look at the spill.  I had trouble walking until I kept scraping and rubbing my foot on the floor.  I probably tracked it everywhere.

3.  Had to return a bag of pinto beans.  They were out of the small bags so I had to buy a large bag last week.  Well I didn't notice they expired in MAY until this morning when I was going to return them.  I wondered why they would get tender last night when I was cooking them.

4.  Out of cheese I wanted.  None in the back.

I've had worse problems than the above from Kroger in the past, but it's like they've finally just worn me down.  They win.  I give up.  I won't be back.

I'm not even going to mention to them the fruit fly infestation I had in my kitchen from the bananas.  Took me two weeks to get them out of the kitchen.  Now I have pantry moths from a Kroger product.  Just ewwww!  One day I couldn't find white onions.  They had to move them to the refridegerated section in produce because the bins were so nasty.  Fruit flies are just swarming around the peaches.

Well, I doubt it.  I'm sure you don't even live in my state so I'm not going to be seeing you.  But you are right about one thing, I will probably return to Kroger.  I have some Kroger products in my pantry I should return.  You know, just under $20 each trip so I can get a cash refund.

We do sell products useful for containing your fruit fly infestation caused by products we sell. Remember, for every problem there is a solution, and we sell all solutions and all problems.

Come back to Kroger. Kroger needs you. Kroger misses you. Kroger remembers the good times we shared. Remember that one time when you were at a Kroger and you looked at the display of the variety of products, the color and the symmetry and the capitalist beauty of it all, and you gave a contented sigh, and you thought, I am home? Kroger remembers that too. Come back.

LOL, yes, Kroger does sell "all problems".  As far a color and symmetry on the shelves, they would actually have to pay someone to order the products, deliver them, and stock them on the shelves.  I'm not content with the bare shelves, no.

And your point is? We don't really care hear. I've had so many customers be "I'm never coming back" and are back the next week for groceries.

We're understaffed and we have to deal with rude customers all the time. Plus, at least in my area, cashiers can't just take the customer's word for the PLU code for produce. We've had too many customers give the code for tomatos (one of our cheapest products) at the self-checkout too many times.

As for the syrup, he was probably going to push it off on a courtesy clerk. We do all the cleaning of the store. So yes I feel your irritation with that situation, but also consider what time of day you go shopping. If you go at the same time every day, then you're probably hitting the time period between trucks.

Well, since I worked for Kroger for 3 1/2 years I'm pretty sure the cashier was just having a bad day and decided to smart off to me.  I know all about being understaffed and having to deal with rude customers.  This cashier is a bitch and has been written up before for this very thing.  Nobody in the store likes her.  Point is, I wasn't being rude, she was and even if I was it gives her no excuse to say what she said.  That cashier has been with Kroger for over 12 years so she should have known the code anyway.  She didn't.  I told her.  Just because your customers return doesn't mean I will.  As far as the syrup, you don't just walk away from a spill.  Ever.  As far as the hours I shop - anywhere from 6 am to 12 midnight.

I've been slowly weaning myself off from Kroger.  It just took me some time to find another store I liked, and Kroger still has some store brand products I like.  Plus I get 10% off.  Lately I've just been running in to get a few last minute things, but I buy most my groceries from Walmart or Albertons now.

After today though it's just not worth it.  Kroger sucks.  I'm glad I don't work there and I'm glad I'm not returning.  Like right now, I noticed I'm out of dishwashing detergent.  Normally I would run up to Kroger, get some and be back home in 10 - 15 minutes.  Not today.  We will go out to eat tonight or I will leave the dishes until tomorrow when I have time to shop somewhere else.  You just have to make up your mind and stick with it.  Kroger doesn't deserve anymore of my money, ever.

Yeah...you do know when we have to "make it right" so we don't lose your business, we're just being paid to act like we care, right? We don't actually care, we just don't want to get in trouble and it's our job to pretend.  But we're off the clock now. So, bye? Not like your money was coming to my pocket anyway, I get paid the same amount regardless of where you shop.

Exactly!  Finally somebody gets it.  Put on your fake smile, kiss my ass and ring up my dang groceries.

Why would you want to where flip flops to a store.  Then I'm sure you walk into your home without washing your feet.  It's like we're a third world country.  I do like to see some of the girls wearing them, it's like they are bare foot, tan short shorts.  It makes a working just a little bit better.

1) Don't tell things to your cashier. I can't count how many times I've had a customer say "It's .99 cents." like it will help me. Yes, the cashier was rude and you let her supervisor know. Next time let the person do their job or instead of blurting it out why not say "If you're looking for the code I know it and can tell it to you".
2) You decided to wear flip flops into the store no one else. You let someone know about the spill. It's not your problem anymore. Don't get mad at the person you told; they didn't force you to step in it. Were you too lazy to look back to see if you "tracked it everywhere"? Why didn't you ask someone for a tissue or have one with you?
3) You were the one who didn't look at the expiration date on that bag before buying it. Things like that slip through the cracks; it happens. Return it and move on.
4) Blame the people who bought the cheese before you did or the fact that CAO failed to predict that you'd be wanting cheese of a specific brand and type for a dish on a specific day. Should have made something else, I guess, or ordered a pizza.

In regards to cleanliness - you have a point, and that isn't your fault.

Everything else, however, comes down to you not being as observant as you should be, while shopping. You're taking offense to things you shouldn't and then passing the blame, off yourself, and onto the store or it's employees.

All the things you've expressed discontent with will still happen at any other store you visit, but you're free to go there and try your luck. It's your money and your choice. Have fun at Walmart.

Well I think it's a problem if you have to take a tissue you with you and wear certain shoes just to shop.  It's 104 degrees outside. I'm wearing my dang flip flops.  Period.  I think it's stupid to suggest I wear certain clothing to shop at Kroger.  I could have worn tennis shoes with a rubber sole and had the same experience.  Sticky syrup will probably stick to any type of sole on a shoe.  So what do you do?  It was the dairy guys attitude that made me mad.  He just didn't care and couldn't be bothered.  If you think I'm taking a tissue and cleaning up you are wrong.  Guy should have stopped and offered me one lol!  But you are right.  You have to be observant when shopping at Kroger.  But who wants that?  Prices ring up wrong, out of stock, expired products are all on Kroger not me.

You also stated I  shouldn't pass the blame onto the store, but blame the customers.  Really?  It's the customers fault?  I'm glad I've never been to your store and had to shop with you around.

I can't tell if you're being satiric about this whole thing, or you're just so damn whiny in real life.

I'm pretty sure either way you're just a bitter ex-employee that thinks that yelling at all the other people who are still employed at Kroger is going to fix something. Since quite honestly I could count on one hand just how many people on here are actually worried about /your/ satisfaction at some random Kroger none of us have probably ever visited, and it would take me exactly zero fingers to figure out how many would actually do something about it.

You want to complain? Okay. Just don't expect us to sympathize with you that you aren't being catered exactly how you want to be. If you want that of course you're welcome to fill out a customer survey/talk to management/leave a yelp review, and I'm sure you'll get an apology and a five dollar gift card for your troubles by people who are actually on the clock and getting paid to kiss your ass.

So let's all face the facts here. None of us care that you're currently pissed off except yourself.

Keep bitching about it of course. Its good entertainment, and we love finally being able to tell bitchy customers just where they can stick it. Since we're off hours, and no one has to worry about getting fired since that stick for far up your ass decided to get bent.

And in the name of customer service: Thank you for visiting and I hope you have a very nice day!

Well you have one thing right Con Dollins, $7.55 an hour is very generous for a lot of Kroger employees who shouldn't be in the workplace in the firstplace!biggrin

Now it was the dairy guy? I thought you said it was the produce guy.

In my store, the breakroom is in the back hallway by the dairy case. If I saw a sticky mess and I was on my break, I would have kept on walking by it too. That's not my job to clean up spills. That's what utility clerks are for. Yes, they are the ones who do all the cleaning in the store, why, because that's their job. You don't see utility's coming back and helping us bake cookies now do you? Not knocking them at all, thats just how it is, all of us have our own job descriptions.

How do you know he didn't go and call customer service? We aren't supposed to page for clean ups, we call customer service and let them do it directly so people like you don't think they can go step in it and then cause a scene (fake slip and falls, etc, we try not to call attention the fact that there's a spill there)

I totally agree with 4hourrush up there on the fact that it's the utility/courtesy clerk's job to clean up messes. I don't typically mind doing the cleaning because it gets me away from bagging for annoying customers. The only time I get annoyed cleaning something up, and I mean really annoyed and not fake annoyed, is when another associate made the mess and just called up to get someone else to clean it. So OP, please shop somewhere else. Perhaps you shop at my store and you'll be one less irratiting customer that doesn't pay attention to the fact that the PLU rollers and numbers do change.

You are wrong.  I never yelled at anyone nor do I expect to.  I never asked for anyone here to help or do anything about it, not that they could anyway.  I already know about the survey, and I did speak to the store manager, remember?  I said I did in my original post.  Didn't get or expect a gift card.  As far as currently being pissed of - no I'm not.  That was over 24 hours ago I posted and I don't really stay angry, it's now worth my time or energy.

As far as you liking to tell bitchy customers where they can stick it - you definitely sound very immature and angry.  Seems your job sucks and you just want to come on here and pick a fight with people.  Either that or you are just pissed because you still have to work at Kroger and I don't LOL!!!!

They aren't going to change the number on a dang white onion.  Water, ice, organic produce maybe.  I've seen the changes.  But white onions aren't changing.  But whatever.  The spill was rather large and at least they could have blocked it off, hell they could actually have grabbed a utility cart or shopping cart to block it.  That's just the way they trained us, sorry.  They were always very strict about spills.  In fact, in training you were supposed to stand by the spill.  Now how in the heck you report it if you can't move is beyond me lol!  Carts were maybe 5 steps away and he took off in the other direction.  I actually was going to tell the cashier when I checked out but we all know how that went.  I was nice to her, tried to help, even said I was sorry.  And still hell rained down on me from her bitter underpaid mouth.  LOL!

No, it was the dairy guy.  I did say produce in my original post.  I made a mistake.  Hopefully that clears things up for you.  Sorry I made a mistake.  Ooops!

No, it was the dairy guy.  I did say produce in my original post.  I made a mistake.  Hopefully that clears things up for you.  Sorry I made a mistake.  Ooops!

The thing is,  our store does page for clean ups.  Star Code then the aisle number.  Not every Kroger is run exactly like your store is run.  Just like all union contracts are different.  Same as pay.  And on and on.  I never thought about lying about an injury, my mind doesn't work like yours does.  Have fun at you looser low paying job.   Maybe you can fake an injury and sue.  Sound like you're doing great so far with your brain damage though.  LOL!

Sometimes the manager a store has makes a difference in how a store is run. We used to have a very hateful manager that made coming to work a horrible experience. Now that she is gone, moral has gone way up and so have our customer service scores. It doesn't excuse employees taking out their frustration on a customer, as with the cashier, but it may explain the apathy among the others.

I'm not telling you to clean it up I'm telling you that you could use the tissue to clean your own shoe. I never stated that you needed to wear something in particular it was just your choice to wear that on that day. You made a big deal about it being flip flops so I figured I might as well do the same.

You don't know me and if you did you'd realize I'm the best Damn person ever.

Oh so now we're into the insults now, that's cute. "Have fun at you looser low paying job"? Yes, that sounds intelligent, what is it, the opposite of a tighter one? -_-

I wasn't saying that I was going to fake an injury and sue, i wasn't even talking about employees, i was talking about customers. Don't tell me you've never heard of the fake slip and fall lawsuits. No, I don't know how all stores work. still doesn't change the fact that you don't know if the dairy guy went to tell a utility clerk.

I was there.  I saw the dairy guy.  I saw where he went.  I saw who he stopped to talk to.  The comanager took care of the spill.  So yes, I do know the dairy guy did not tell a utility clerk.  The spill is all cleaned up now so you can let it go.  I've had a great day, and a wonderful shopping experience at a new grocery store.  Prices are fantastic, aisles are super wide, floral department flowers are fresh and not over run with dead floral mark-downs.  Cashiers and employees I encountered were are very friendly and you don't even have to use a store discount card!!!  I've made the right decision to leave Kroger and not shop there ever again.

Hopefully I've explained thing well enough for you to understand.  Try not to get so angry.  I think if you would try not to nit pick so much on everything someone says things might improve for you.

I think you're enjoying it, or you wouldn't keep coming back. Pretend this forum is a Kroger store, and go away.

Please don't go, Mr/Ms. Anonymous! Without your business, our company will go bankrupt and thousands of products will expire and tens of thousands of workers will starve to death and society will collapse and...

Oh wait. We don't care. Bye Felicia!
