At my store they definitely come down harder on the old timers.  One lady they put in floral after she repeatedly told them she couldn't work there like that anymore.  She was a back up in floral and they made her run that department.  They had another lady who was more experienced and wanted to work in floral but they wouldn't let her.  Only the lady who didn't want to would do.  One guy in diary they kept punishing him by putting him on the register for a month.  All kinds of things happen.  As my meager hourly rate started to increase they started harassing me too.  They do in fact try to make you miserable enough to quit.

We got letters from both the union & the company on July 7th regarding contract talks. Basically, they said that the company is not putting forth a decent contract and that unless major changes are made, the union will not accept it. I'm positive they are going for spousal insurance removal like a lot of other divisions.

The question I have is, why are they trying so hard to cut at this point in time when they have so much pressure from other retailers that are quite literally taking not only our current our employees, but prospective ones as well. You'd think at the very least, a good PR move is necessary at this point by issuing a substantial pay hike or benefit boost.

That being said, I don't expect this to be resolved for a couple months at least.

The only way they should be allowed to remove spousal insurance is by increasing wages enough to allow the ability to purchase their own insurance outside of the company.   On average, I'd assume that'd be around a 2-4$/hr boost.   I doubt they are presenting this kind of option.

You're right about perspective hires. I've been telling people to look elsewhere first. Kroger has okay benefits as far as employee discounts and all, but that's about it coming from a part timer.

Probably threat of a strike, likelihood of a strike at this point are minimal.   The last thing KR wants is the public thinking they aren't treating their employees fairly, which will inevitably happen if it escalates to that.

The only benefit for part time is the discount. You can't possibly say getting a financing discount for a car you'll never afFord is a benefit.
