Taste of Italy is coming biggrin

I heard it from my department head today, she thinks it's in September or October.

I'll believe it when I see it.  They've been talking about it for a year now.

Taste of mexico was such a flop, they better have a new gameplan for Italy.

I've heard talks about the Taste of Italy since January... so far, nothing. That's fine by me. Kroger totally fails at copying Central Market's "cultural/cuisine" spotlight promotions that are run regularly at that chain. Anyone that has a Central Market in the area knows that the employees/company really do have a passion for food and recipes and stuff, and when Central Market runs a foodie event, that chain goes all out, whereas Kroger puts in like one-third of the effort and expects the same result. You're not going to steal customers away from Central Market, Kroger. Central Market customers can't get the same quality food or types of food or customer experience at Kroger, so forget it.

At least at my store, customers didn't care about the Taste of Mexico promotion. There was so much waste, too, like with the churros. Oh my gosh... those darn things piled up in the break room at the end of every day 'cause they just weren't selling. The same boxes that are used for the dozen donuts had churros crammed into them, and there were multiple boxes on any given day.

Kroger wastes so much money... money that could go to properly staffing stores and paying employees well so that they stay/give 100%, but nope...

That's me, leading by exampel and dusting off my Eye-talian.

Maybe I'll feel generous and mark the Buhsketti-0hs 2% off for Taste off Italy!!

They sell well enough, you could actually mark them up 2%.

I'm triggered, first taste of Mexico, now this.  When is taste of USA!?  I'll man the grill outside and when the Asians come in "what's it gonna be chinky: hotdog or hamburger?"

I saw portions of the material designed for the "Taste of Italy" in our office today. Packets and whatnot with the "Taste of Italy" on it with a graphic of the Italian flag. I do think it is indeed happening, but I'm surprised that Kroger is going to attempt this during the second half of the year when so much else is going on. There will likely be a big push the week leading up to Labor Day for grilling as Labor Day typically marks the end of of summer. Then, in October, you know it's all going to be about autumn foods and stuff, primarily pumpkin-flavored food. November is (typically) the Holiday Open House sampling the flavors of the holiday season, and thus who is going to want a "Taste of Italy" during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season? The "Taste of Italy" would have made more sense during the spring/summer months than during autumn/winter.

Yeah, my department head still insists that it's coming, that she keeps hearing bits of information about it. I'm pretty sure it is going to be happening before the end of the year. But i agree, unless happens in the part of september after labor day, idk when it'll be. In October we'll be doing the pink shirts for breast cancer awareness month so i don't think it could be then.

I don't think there's enough time to get it ready for September, honestly. We're approaching the halfway mark of August. Shirts of various sizes need to be ordered and that requires collecting everyone's sizes in the stores and that takes time. Displays are going to have to be built and those materials and supplies require time to be manufactured and shipped, and there are a lot of stores to ship the materials to. Bakery probably will need to get special product for Italian pastries. If this was all happening by September, I think we'd be hearing talk about preparing for it now. Maybe I'm wrong, but I will be surprised if it's September...

We're getting special products in the bakery but you're right, as far as i know we haven't gotten the order guide for any of it.

Being in early November would be a possiblity but seems weird around the holidays...
