Do you have to be a suck-up just to switch departments???

I've been a bagger for a year and a month now. I've been asking to get switched ever since my 3rd month! 9 months later I'm still asking til this day!! But during my year of working at kroger, they moved 3 baggers ahead of me(2 of em had way less seniority than me) and also hired a TON of new ppl for the position(s) I want to switch to which is grocery or drug/gm clerk. Ok I'm a very opinionated person but I'm polite with it. And I'm taking it that my supervisors absolutely hate that and they are trying to sabotage me on purpose by not switching me. I have a few bossy supervisors who abuse their authority a little too much. I'll do the task they ask me to do with no problems but the bitchy attitude and cursing is really unnecessary. To make a long story short, I always stand up to my supervisors whenever I feel they are abusing their authority. For that reason alone they won't allow me to move just because I won't be their bitch and kiss up to them. To me, it's pretty obvious they don't like me because I done the following things for them:

1. Did tons of midnights pushing carts by HAND with NO cartpusher in that jungle we call a parking lot where it's always crowded and folks act like they can't see ur vest and almost run you over. Along with the elements such as rain, snow, ice, wind, hail, and oh yeah lighting!

2. Cleaning up messes around the store and restrooms...don't even get me started.

3. Picking up extra shifts when they ask me to.

4. Show up to work on time.

5. Damn near perfect attendance! Out of my entire year at Kroger I only missed TWO days..

6. Bag groceries correctly.. yes the supervisors watch us bag at times too.

7. Stayed over past my shift just to help clear the lot.

8. I currently have 4 write ups but they weren't heinous at all. My supervisors and managers told me to go 30 dats without a write up..They told me that in March...it's now August...4 months past without a write-up and it's still not good for em! furious

All of that bs I did for and look where it got me..STILL a bagger!!furiousfurious

Sorry I made this longer than I should have but I think they are showing big time hatred towards me just because I stand up to them when they're the ones being a little too harsh.

So should I give up and start kissing up? Or just continue to fight and get what I deserve??? Just want to hear you guys' input on this. I would appreciate it.

Well, sounds like you've already fought and got what you deserve! What were your 4 write ups for?

Who have you been talking to about moving up? You need to skip over everyone and talk directly to the store manager. Tell them that you are interested in other positions if they become available and if they need help in grocery (which always needs help) or any other dept then all they have to do is ask and you'll be there, I guarantee you they love people dependable like that. I started as a cc when I hired on and now i'm a lead frozen clerk.

The write-ups, until they drop off, is probably what's gonna hurt you. What were they for?

Speaking to the supervisors and the front end manager won't do you any good.  You need to talk to the department head of the department you're interested in.  If there's room for you, go to your human resources manager or a co-manager and ask for a department transfer request form.  If the department manager really wants you, you may not even have to do that.  They'll speak to managemant and take care of it for you.

1. Pulling my phone out to check the time when I was doing carts. I didn't have a watch or get a warning. But yet the supervisors get to pull their phones out anytime they want to.

2. Not wearing the cart vest the proper way disbelief

3. Me and 2 other baggers had to push big lines of carts so we could get the lot done because the cart bay was empty. Keep in mind that management took the cart pusher away from us. Anyways, we pushed a line of 60 and all of us were relatively skinny so we were exhausted afterwards. So we stoop there for a few min to catch our breath. Our d*ck head store manager just so happened to be going home and assumed we weren't "working hard enough"

4. A manager wrote me and another bagger for talking but fail to realize we were working too.

I forgot my other one but pretty much all my write ups have been complete b.s.

I've literally been talked to everyone, it's like you have to keep bugging them because they will forget

Those are some really petty write ups. #1 is just plain stupid, #2 is understandable, that's safety, #3 is something I would have demanded video footage of, #4 it's dumb as well unless you were just standing around doing nothing but talking.

The majority would probably be thrown out due to how stupid they are, unless you signed them.

Well if your store manager himself thinks you are lazy then you better have some sort of game plan to make him realize you take pride in your work. Definitely start talking to customers more than other baggers (huge management pet peeve), never pull out your phone. Leave it in your damned car. And always ask at the end of your shift if they need you to stay over or not. They will definitely take notice of you if you do these things and they may let you switch departments after a little while. If not, then take this new work ethic you have developed and apply to a different company.

 Good advice!
