I am stepping down from dept. head to a regular clerk position in Bky. What are the correct steps for doing this? I will not ask at Store level because Ive come to trust Noone. Even in Corp. world because I know they call store Mgr right away to see what happened. Im just so tired of what this Co. has become. Im fighting the urge to retire all together. I just need help so I can walk in with a letter and know that they can do nothing. Not be blind-sided with something. Thank You and any info would help.

And when you step down, they are going to expect more from you having been a dept. head than a regular clerk would have to do. Count on it. I fear you will be doing just as much work for less pay.
I would submit copies of the same faxed letter with time/date stamp on it to your store and district managers, keeping a copy for myself. This doesn't have to go nasty, just use tact.
As for being required to continue dept. lead work, respectfully remind upper mgmt---EVERY time---that those duties are no longer in your job description and pay grade. I've seen this before, and it is also in how you keep your cool. It's the ones who can be bullied and intimidated who........well, get bullied and intimidated.
I did the same from the bakery. I'm in a union Division. I went back to what I was before i was promoted. PT bakery clerk.
But I was very aware, as someone has already posted, they would use me in the same capacity and want me do do more than others so I IMMEDIATELY, within the week, went to the grocery dept.

I very much recommend changing departments. I know someone who stepped down but stayed in the bakery and still gets used for manager duties. Even inputting inventory. She likes the ego boost so she does it but she's doing it for less pay.
