This sounds like a lost cause, but is there any way to make working as a courtesy clerk less monotonous? I just started working for Kroger about a month ago, and of course, the managers instantly disliked me. Now, I'm a generally optimistic person, but working here has crushed my spirit after only a month. I do what I can to make it bearable. I'm nice to the customers, I get along with the cashiers, I sing on lot duty... Things like that.
Does anyone have any advice on how to stay optimistic? Any fun little tricks or things to think about while you're working that make it less torturous? Lastly, is there any way to get any sort of general respect from my managers, or will they always treat me like I'm the scum of the earth?
Other departments have work that seems less monotonous, but I'd still say the front end is a party in comparison. Bagging in and of itself isn't a fun activity, but you always have your cashier you can chat with and other baggers to gossip with about "the new chick on lane 6" or the old supervisor who seems like a hardass.

Ugh...unfortunately in my store, they've cut down on the amount we can chat with each other. When no customers are in line, they make us cashiers stand in a particular spot away from the CCs. :/

Yeah, my managers tried this crap a few months ago. They were calling it "invite the customer". it lasted less than a day, but I did figure out who was more susceptible to doing stupid things. It was very enlightening and expanded my influence over certain people. *evil laughter*
