If you split your vacation in half

And take it across two weeks, for payroll purposes, are vacation hours broken down into 7 days or 5 days? I know you get the whole week off but is it 5 days of "pay" plus 2 days "off" or is it 7 days of "pay"? if that makes any sense.

Because my vacation week got split (which i'm ok with) but i'm afraid someone's going to screw me over on pay or hours for the following week. Because i was told I can't work 2 days then start the vacation the five days after that because it'd be "overtime". I had to have two days "off" then start the vacation on Thurs. Does that make sense?

it's measured by hours not days. So if you take it in halves then you'd be paid for less than 20 hours for the week. Your CSM isn't doing it right.

[EDIT:] Unless you have like 80 hours of vacation pay waiting for you. If you're going to be getting paid for above 40 hours in a week... then it would be overtime.

Under our contract vacation pay is paid in advance.  Were you approved for two weeks?  If so tell them you can file a grievance if they make you split it.

I think I got it sorted out thanks to a coworker who explained it better. I get almost 30 hours of vacation pay. It equaled out being almost 6 hours per day on vacation pay.

It would have been overtime since i'm working 8 hours both Sunday and Monday. If i had taken vacation right after that, it would have been like working 7 days.

If I'm doing the math right, my check for next week should be 16 hours worked + roughly 18 hours vacation pay, for a total of 34 hours.

Then on the following week i'll get the other 12 hours of vacation pay along with however many hours i work.

That is if my hr person does all this right.

sounds about right. I know that I got 59.5 hours of vacation time this year (2 weeks vacation time for 5 years of service)

So you are basically getting  a few extra days off instead of a weeks vacation.  Sounds like Kroger.  Hope you didn't make plans to go anywhere.  I bet they call you in.

Nah, my department head is cool like that and wouldn't do that to me. Today and tomorrow are the only days i'm not actually scheduled as being on vacation so if she calls me tomorrow, technically she could but that's it. i think it'd be major overtime if they called me on a vacation day?

again, it's based on hours and not days so it would only be overtime if you get more than 40 hours in a week :P
