Rain Check?

I observed this while waiting in line at the service center:

A lady bought our entire supply of a particular brand of energy drinks that were on sale. Then after completing the transaction, she walks over to service center to get a rain check because we were "out of energy drinks".

I'm not sure if the service center worker saw the cart full of drinks or not, but she did issue the rain check for her.

We issue rain checks when asked because we don't care. We seriously want to avoid invoking any customer to yell at us or becoming full of questions about our policy. The only time we refuse rain checks is on alcohol and tobacco since that is illegal in our area.

I would've done the same, so long as the item actually is on sale, and we were actually out (not available from the back). We get people doing the same thing sometimes, mostly resellers, people who own a convenience store/mini-mart. They buy non-perishables in huge quantities on sale then jack up the prices in their store to make a nice profit. I don't personally like the idea (what about all our other customers who want to buy the item?), but a sale is a sale and as far as I know there's no rule against it so we can't quote policy.

our store we have refused and have banned people who resell at garage sales. one girl saw this woman who frequent our store on a reseller facebook page and our manager banned her. :) but we have a lot of convenience store people as well, and most of our customer service people will refuse if they know what's up.

At my store, we get pizza places and small time grocery chains and restaurant people come in and buy soda, all the time, when it's on sale for $1 and just resell them at $1.50 or $2. It's shady as hell.

And they buy carts worth at a time and we are forced to help them with it to their cars >_<

I mean, is that really a bad thing?  If people are willing to pay the higher price, then more power to the business.   Those small time businesses don't have the purchasing power that Kroger does, so they can't get them for near the same price.

Kroger should just put a limit on sale items like they do with the meat.  Limit 2 with a $10 purchase etc.  Of course they will just buy the limit, put them in their car and come back in and go through another lane.

or force you to do it on separate orders.

Well customers that are told by me that there is a limit have to go by what I say.  I don't let customers FORCE me to do anything.  Maybe you do.
