If I use Kroger as a reference in a job application for work history, will the Kroger manager or who ever tell the new job that I was terminated? Or could the new job find out through background check?

Here's the party line work place management every where will tell you: ¨we can only give out hiring and departure dates, we never talk about why an employee left.¨

I'm here to tell you for a fact that's bull $hit. Former employees get dirtied on all the time, I've sat right in offices and heard fellow managers do that.

So: my advice is, if you're worried about a bad reference, either find someone there you can trust.........or create a fictional former job altogether, like you were working for a family business. I've seen THIS before too, and it works.

Depends on the job. Mine never called Kroger (I was still working with them at the time, so that's probably why). I still put them on my resume though.

I wasn't fired but I left a job without notice.  When I applied for other jobs I just said I was still employed there and checked the do not contact them box.
