How far does Kroger go back on their background checks because I have an interview and don't want waste my time or theirs if my background check is going to be an issue!!! I have been convicted of a felony charge simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time but its over 9 years ago...I dealt with my punishment worked other jobs dealing with money and merchandise... My past is my past!

Once a felon, always a felon.  It doesn't go off a background check.   It should ask on the job application "have you ever been convicted of a felony?"  You have to check "yes".   Lying about it, plus being a felon won't get you a job anywhere.  But, since you say your past is your past, then why bother asking?

This doesn't answer the question, but one thing that's always bothered me is how the justice system breaks down, where civilian world rehabilitation is concerned. More people than not become felons as a result of poor education and job opportunities......then they can't get schooling or jobs because they're felons.

And blowing them off with 'well, you shoulda thought about that' doesn't help ANY one.

DON'T LIE ABOUT IT.

If you make a good enough impression you could still get hired. I know of someone who's a convicted felon who works for Kroger and they're making more money than most of us on here, lol.

oh and their conviction is about as recent as yours.

Some of those felons already have degrees while I'm still slaving away on mine. :P

Kroger uses a time machine to go back and document your birth to make sure you are who you say you are.
they they use the same time machine to verify the accuracy of the information provided by governments, credit agencies, etc.

Since they only have a handful of these, it takes time (no pun intended) to get the process completed.

Background checks can be a very fickle thing...probationer was checked before promoting position and because the decision came from headquarters, not only denied promotion but then terminated. Almost every HR I've dealt with its always a tricky question...some don't want integrity and only want to fill the position put a body in the position and get money made, others would like to have a person with moral fiber and decide accordingly. I think the last 3 jobs I've had were only because it wasn't checked. I come across professional in every interview which works against me occasionally (too clean). However, google jobs for felons and get list of employers who hire felons, then honesty and more importantly...relaxed. Mentioning a previous conviction can keep from getting a job when the check looks for last 5 years and convicted 8 years ago, but ask yourself this...would you really want job where every day could be the last because of dishonesty? Most just want to make sure conviction wasn't for something like theft, violence or drugs etc. Also remember, asking if a conviction would be a problem demonstrates integrity, even in the face of conflict.

i don't know if this helps.. But I got hired on with Kroger with no problems at all. And i have a misdemeanor on my record. I know its not a felony, but I was not asked in the second interview about my background history at all. After they ran my background check of course. Oh and i just got off my probation like 1 month ago too. So i know it had to of shown up, since i have not had time yet or money to pay my lawyer to get it expunged. So i honestly think you will be fine. But make sure you keep calling them and ask for the HR manager to ask about the status of your online or in-store application.. As like the guy said in the above comment. It makes you sound like your interested in the position. Plus, Kroger has very competitive wages/pay.  Start out at 11.75 or higher depending on good past employment history and experience. Plus great medical, dental and vision insurance after 90days! Not to shabby.. lol Well good luck to you. And just in case it doesn't work out, there are plenty of great jobs out there that I bet would hire you. : )
